What a genius idea: let’s detonate 12 nuclear bombs over the UAE and Oman to create a canal bypassing Hormuz.
Who wants to introduce him to the Al Hajar mountains? (
(…we are leaving aside the small issue of radiation and everything else…)

Instead of fighting over a 21-mile-wide bottleneck forever, we cut a new channel through friendly territory. A dozen thermonuclear detonations and you’ve got a waterway wider than the Panama Canal, deeper than the Suez, and safe from Iranian attacks. https://t.co/Et21kHCiAw
@TheQuantum__ @pwr5990 Under #ProjectPlowshare the US Atomic Energy Commission (AEC) explored various 'peaceful' uses of atomic munition.
One of these was the creation of the #BenGurionCanal through Israel, which would be excavated with atomic munitions...
Obviously, this didn't proceed but...
@JustinR62050987 @KimDotcom It would be so IRONIC if Israel would finally admit they have an arsenal of 3rd-generation "clean" nukes that they were planning to use to build this canal on the cheap - and totally safe! #ProjectPlowshare

In 1960s & 1970s US & USSR had programs promoting “peaceful nuclear explosions” (PNE). In US called Project Plowshare included plans for major earth-moving projects for using cratering blasts w/hydrogen bombs for mountain passes, harbors, canals, etc.

Rauhanomainen ydinräjähdys! Tänään 60 vuotta Sedan-testistä (104 kt, 5 x Nagasaki). Tavoitteena tutkia esim. kanavien kaivamista. #ProjectPlowshare'ssa räjäytettiin 31 ydinlatausta. Ja kuten videokin vihjaa, Sedan aiheutti ilmakehään valtavan laskeuman. https://t.co/TLVMbV082q
@MontyTheHorse12 @bad_rail_takes Maybe they think #HS2 is part of #ProjectPlowshare? Though that would hardly be suitable for the cuttings and tunnels.

Did you know that in 1960, engineers recommended detonating over 200 #nuclear devices in #Panama to excavate a sea-level canal? Read @Jordan_Coulombe's new Arcadia article to learn more. https://t.co/Exq68P5teR

The best thank you note ever? "In fact, it is only because the briefcases were obtained at no-cost-to-the-government that you are receiving anything but my sincere thanks of displaying such support for, or morbid curiosity in, the project." #ProjectPlowshare @wellerstein
