Writing code is almost always the most expensive solution to the problem. That's why #realprogrammers look around to see what is already there before they write their own.
A mentor is a spirit animal for a stage in your career, not your Uber driver.

As programmers, we have to make sure that we spend more time understanding WHY we are writing the code, and less time understanding HOW we write it.
We need to constantly be working to master the concepts behind proper software design.

Here's what we don't tell Jr. Devs that we should.
Every person sitting in their next code review has:
- Written insecure code
- Rolled code to prod that had an obvious error in it
- Patched code in production
- Made every other mistake they can think of

- Yes, the plan
- Yes, they draw up design documents
- Yes, they do a discovery phase
But at the end of the day, you know you are a real programmer if you wrote code.
If you didn't, you may not be a #realprogrammer.
#realProgrammers are always learning.
Yes, #realProgrammers reinvent the wheel, but only after we are confident that the wheel we need doesn’t yet exist.
We do it when we know why we are doing it, and can defend the decision when called to do so because honestly, this is always the most expensive choice.
