VOA Persian, which is funded by American taxpayers, is censoring news related to the ongoing revolution and protests of Iranians against the Islamic regime of #Iran. This censorship is being carried out on the direct order of Ali Javanmardi, who was appointed by Kari Lake.
From the beginning, Iranians strongly protested Javanmardi’s appointment. In response, Kari Lake has attempted to justify this decision by claiming that VOA Persian should avoid portraying Reza Pahlavi as a popular figure among Iranians.
In reality, Kari Lake, Ali Javanmardi, and Mora Namdar—who advised Kari Lake and played a key role in Javanmardi’s appointment—are systematically censoring protest footage and eyewitness material.
Their objective is to deny a clear and widely documented fact: that during the recent anti-regime protests, Iranians across the country overwhelmingly chanted Reza Pahlavi’s name.
What is even more troubling—and yet largely ignored—is the serious concern surrounding Ali Javanmardi’s past activities and associations. He has had, and may still have, connections to the intelligence organization of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). Such connections raise legitimate national-security and editorial-integrity concerns, as they could potentially be exploited in the future by the Islamic regime to spread misinformation and disinformation through Persian-language media.
This is not a hypothetical risk. In the past, through his media outlet Avatoday, Javanmardi published misinformation and disinformation originating from the Islamic regime. These campaigns directly targeted Reza Pahlavi, his wife, and several other opposition figures. Given this documented pattern of behavior, there is a clear and ongoing risk that he is capable of continuing such activities under the cover of a taxpayer-funded media organization.
This is not journalism.
It is censorship. And it is an attempt to manipulate public perception by telling Iranians—and the world—whom they are allowed to see as a legitimate and popular opposition leader.
