The BIP-110 crowd keeps pushing this cartoon version of “Core” as some unified evil cabal bankrolled by Big Bitcoin to “obfuscate” the protocol. Reality check: Bitcoin Core is a wide, permissionless set of contributors. That includes Luke Dashjr; long-time Core contributor, still committing code, and the guy who lost a pile of BTC and has publicly blamed Core developers for it. Yet Luke is one of the strongest drivers behind BIP-110. He advanced it through the normal, decentralized BIP process. The fact it has gotten this far is itself evidence the process isn’t captured by “suit-coiners.” If a centralized cabal actually controlled Core, a proposal this contentious would’ve been smothered in the crib. Perhaps Luke is acting maliciously? Who’s funding his extreme concessions changing purist mission? It’s worth asking why he largely escapes the same intense scrutiny applied to other contributors (Gloria Zhao and several others who shall remain unnamed). Flip the narrative and the picture looks a lot closer to business-as-usual Bitcoin development than a grand conspiracy. Core isn’t a monolith. It’s messy, argumentative, and open. That’s the feature, not the bug.
