April Fabb was a 13 year old girl who disappeared on 8th April 1969, 55 years ago tomorrow. She was cycling to deliver a present to her uncle who lived in the next village, Roughton. She never arrived, and soon after a search began her bicycle was discovered lying in a ditch beside the road between the two villages. She was never found. Her disappearance was a great loss of innocence for East Anglia. It featured in the local news for months after it had been almost forgotten by the national press. It seemed to confirm every warning and every threat our parents had made about what might happen if we went off on our own. It is not too strong to say that April's disappearance haunted us as children, and that to an extent it still haunts East Anglia today. As has become customary at this time, Norfolk police have issued a fresh appeal for information.
