🚨📢 #FixTheSystem #SaveOAU It is alarming how urgency only exists when it is time to suppress students, but disappears when students’ lives are at stake. Adewole Oreoluwa Emmanuel, a 400L medical student, died in the presence of consultants and over 150 medical students. He was buried today, yet there has been no official release, no acknowledgment, no statement from the school management. Kosi was kidnapped on his way to Jos for his IT placement. His parents had to crowdfund and raise ₦50M for ransom before he regained freedom, yet again, no release from the school management. But immediately the Students’ Union mentioned protest, the DSA issued a release, and the school management through the PRO’s office issued another statement in less than an hour. Today again, after the three-week break, another memo was swiftly released asking students to vacate the halls. Two different releases for control. Zero releases for students’ lives. So what exactly is the priority here? A citadel of learning should protect lives before enforcing policies. Students should not only matter when it is time to issue warnings and restrictions. We refuse to normalize institutional silence. We refuse to adapt to neglect. #FixTheSystem #SaveOAU
