THE WAVE TRAIN is cranking up over Africa which is a sign that the peak of the hurricane season is near. I’m seeing signs that one or two of these waves will try to develop in the tropical Atlantic next week. I’m not concerned long-term as strong wind shear is screaming across the Caribbean and SW Atlantic, which will tear whatever tries to develop to shreds. Thank you, Super El Niño! We can’t let our guard down for an unlucky punch — Andrew and Betsy were during El Niño years. Next name on the list is #Cristobal. 🌀🚂

We've got some exciting new HAFS graphics we're introducing on our AOML Hurricane Model Viewer: simulated satellite imagery!
Right now we have:
-Simulated IR
-Simulated Mid/Upper WV
-Simulated IR with shear overlaid (like the shear graphic from @UWCIMSS)
These are a nice way to look at both inner-core structure and large-scale environmental forecasts from the models. We have experimental versions of HAFS-B (basin-scale/multistorm) up now, and we'll have the experimental version of HAFS-A run by NOAA OMD on there soon!
