Lt Gen NPS Hira. My Platoon instructor in #IMA in 1985. Taught values of courage, commitment and honor. I had opted for Commandos. He ensured #SikhLI. Said, spend one year with #SikhLI and you will forget rest. And he was so right. Proud of my #Regiment and gratitude to my Guru. @ManojNaravane @Vedmalik1

Once a visiting Brigade Commander's staff car broke down en route to a unit.. A 3 ton truck (Shaktiman) driven by #Sikhli Havildar of the regiment was getting back to the unit after radiation collection and found the stranded Commander en route. He promptly offered the Commander a 'lift' which the magnanimous officer accepted without any trace of ego. But soon as the Commander took his seat next to the driver, he says - "Ilk mint saab ji" and gets down from the vehicle to pluck the flag from the car and tied it to his Shaktiman. Turning to the Commander he said "Gaddi koi vi hove, lokaa nu pata hona chaida hai Kamandar saab naal si ge". (One minute sir —whatever the vehicle people must know that the Cdr was in the vehicle) Our boys are the best . Would love to be an Army Soldier every time I am born. #Jaihind #JaihindkiSena

#InfantryDay: A Salute to Those Who Stand While the World Sleeps. I was commissioned into the Sikh Light Infantry (#SIKHLI). Young, eager, and unaware of how deeply those letters stitched on my shoulders, would shape my Soul. My first posting was on the #LineofControl, High in the mountains, where life existed between frost and fire. The LC was active then cross-firing wasn’t an event.. ...it was routine. Days began before sunrise and nights never truly ended. Up there, I learnt what no academy or manual could ever teach... The true meaning of #soldiering, sacrifice, and silent pride. We lived in a world stripped down to the bare essentials of #survival: * No running water. We melted ice in old utensils to fill our bottles. * No phone calls home. Only blue inland letters that took weeks to reach. * No TV, no Music, no Noise. Except the wind howling through bunkers and the occasional burst of gunfire. * Meals ready-to-eat :half frozen, Tasteless * Oxygen so rare, even breathing felt like an effort of will. * Sleep was rationed, Just like the food and the sunlight. But what we lacked in comfort, we made up in #courage. What we lost in convenience, we gained in #character. Here are 10 #lessons the Infantry carved into my bones. 1️⃣ #Brotherhood is forged in hardship. When you share a trench, you stop being colleagues. You become family. 2️⃣ #Leadership isn’t rank; it’s responsibility. You lead by walking first into danger, Not by standing behind orders. 3️⃣ #Discipline isn’t forced; it’s earned. Because one man’s mistake can cost ten lives. 4️⃣ #Sacrifice is Quiet. No audience, no applause Just a soldier doing his duty in the dark. 5️⃣ #Resilience is built in minus 10°C. Where each step uphill tests your lungs, Your legs, and your will. 6️⃣ #Hope comes in the smallest forms. A letter from home. A dry pair of socks. The first rays of sun after three cloudy days. 7️⃣ #Fear never leaves. You just learn to march with it. 8️⃣ #Faith becomes your only Constant. In your men. In your training. In the tricolour flying far below the peaks. 9️⃣ #Humour is Survival. A shared laugh in a snow trench could warm what the fire couldn’t. 🔟 #Patriotism isn’t Noise. It’s the quiet resolve to stand guard while the rest of the nation sleeps in peace. The Infantry taught me that courage isn’t about facing the #enemy. It’s about facing the cold, the loneliness, and the silence... EVERY SINGLE DAY. and still reporting for duty with a smile. To every #soldier who stands tall in the biting wind and endless night. We owe you our dawns, our peace and our pride. Happy Infantry Day. Jai Hind 🇮🇳 Pic : Circa 2003 / Line of Control
