Scoop : Actor #SonSeungWon 'First Celebrity Under the Yoon Chang-ho Act,' Caught for Fifth Drunk Driving... 4-Year Prison Sentence Investigated.
According to reports on MBC; Actor Son Seung-won has once again landed in controversy following reports surrounding another alleged drunk driving case, marking what is being described as his fifth such incident since his release from prison. According to reports highlighted on JTBC’s Newsroom on May 14, Son Seung-won was sentenced to four years in prison in the first trial linked to charges of drunk driving and hit-and-run causing injury under the Act on Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes.
The case stems from an incident last November, where the actor was accused of driving in the wrong direction on Seoul’s Gangbyeonbuk-ro while heavily intoxicated. Additional revelations have further intensified public criticism, with reports stating that Son was also driving without a valid license at the time of the incident.
The controversy deepened after allegations surfaced that he attempted to destroy evidence connected to the case. Reports claimed that Son contacted his girlfriend and asked her to remove or destroy dashcam footage. CCTV footage from a police station reportedly captured her retrieving the storage device from a vehicle parked there.
Son Seung-won had previously drawn nationwide attention in 2018 after becoming the first celebrity punished under South Korea’s “Yoon Chang-ho Act” following his fourth drunk driving offense. In 2019, he received a one year and six months prison sentence during the appeal trial and later served his term. Due to the sentence, he was also exempted from mandatory military service under the Military Service Act after receiving a Grade 5 wartime labor service classification.
