Johns nest here was the first egg recorded in Durham, but working back from our 1st 2 fledged families on 16/6 those pairs will have got straight down to business & been on full clutches the week before, ie Mid May. #NRS2022 #SpotFly ⚫️🦉 @Woolie_woo

This weeks visits were our first without an active #SpotFly nest since late May 😢😄
We have of course confirmed further successful breeding in new Tetrads.

We watched a pair with young in the nest chase off a Jackdaw, glued to its tail for 100metres ! #SpotFly
Great Spotted Woodpecker encroached on Flycatcher territory, lasted less than a minute it was seen off

Worked up some #SpotFly data.
Our most productive 1km square in Weardale had 14 breeding pairs but some sections not fully covered.
(20pr/Tetrad in 1980’s Teesdale is the Max pop fig I can find for VC66).

Looking at the plight of their half arsed Scribbly survey i wouldnt hold out much hope of anything of any real meaning to come from it.

We’ve been amazed at how pairs choose such different nests site types for consecutive clutches. Their first successful nest was in a skinny ivy clad tree overhanging water. (centre of pic). #NRS #SpotFly
