Today's "Empowering Through Remembrance" conference at @SrebrenicaMC is teaching our #SYS2024 class invaluable lessons about genocide, post-conflict studies, and reconciliation.
Learning them in a space like Srebrenica just hits different. ❤️🩹
Deeply moving and haunting to watch the arrival of coffins (tabuti) containing the remains of 14 of the 8,372 Srebrenica Genocide victims. 💔
These coffins are a material reminder of the human loss that results from the ethnonationalism we have been learning about. #SYS2024
Professor @MelaniCammett from @Harvard (& the PCRC's very own Advisory Board) is in the house! 🤩
She discusses inter-communal relations in peacebuilding, as well as the crucial distinction between "toleration" and "tolerance".
Thank you for joining our #SYS2024, Professor! 😊
Day 2 of #SYS2024 continues in stellar company!
Professor Edina Bećirević of the Uni of Sarajevo (+ author of "Genocide on the Drina River", co-founder of @Ainicijativa, the list goes on 😅...) spoke to us about the slow-motion genocide of 1992-93 in Srebrenica.
What an honour!
Wow. We were blown away by Tali Nates (founder and exec director of @JHGCentre) and her seminar on legacies from the Holocaust and apartheid.
There is no doubt that genocide and conflict are an intersectional affair.
Take a bow, Executive Director. 👏 #SYS2024
Our class of #SYS2024 may be made up of students from three different continents, but today we were all united in remembrance at the Srebrenica-Potočari Memorial and Cemetery.
United in grief. United in reflection. United in learning from the past. ✊
We've been spoilt for choice in the #SYS2024's latest panel discussion on the glorification of war criminals and hate speech! 👇😳
