Electricity bills in Telangana will rise from November after TGERC approved ₹7,635.22 crore in true-up charges. Consumers will initially pay 30 paise more per unit, followed by another 50 paise per unit for about two years.

Electricity consumers across Telangana, excluding agricultural pump-set users, are set to face an additional burden after the Telangana Electricity Regulatory Commission (#TGERC) approved ₹5,420.23 crore in true-up charges.
Under the approved order, domestic, commercial, industrial and lift irrigation consumers will pay an additional 30 paise per unit from November 2026. The charge will increase to 50 paise per unit from December onwards.
For example, a household consuming 200 units of electricity per month will pay around ₹60 extra in November and ₹100 extra every month from December onwards.
The additional charges will be recovered over 29 months from #TGSPDCL consumers and 26 months from #TGNPDCL consumers.
The TGERC has approved total true-up charges of ₹7,635.22 crore for electricity consumed during 2022-23 and 2023-24. Of this, ₹2,214.99 crore relates to agricultural pump-sets, for which electricity is supplied free of cost.
The Commission has advised the two Discoms to approach the Telangana government for recovery of the agricultural-sector true-up amount.
The true-up charges represent the difference between the actual cost of supplying electricity and the amount already recovered from consumers, mainly due to higher power purchase, fuel and operational costs.
The new charges are expected to continue until March 2029 for TGSPDCL consumers and December 2028 for TGNPDCL consumers.
