I have huge respect for @KamilaRCGP, particularly for her leadership on the #PhysicianAssociate issue. During her tenure as Chair, @rcgp's position on #thePAProject shifted massively and now reflects the concerns that our members raised with us in our member consultation.

Fantastic work from @rcgp. On a personal level, I do think that this guidance really illustrates what incredibly poor value for money #PhysicianAssociates are in General Practice. There's no way a clinician working within this scope is worth £46k per year. #PAWeek #ThePAProject
Our new College guidance for GP practices employing Physician Associates is now available. This does not change our policy position that we oppose a role for PAs within general practice.
However, we recognise that many practices already employ PAs and our guidance aims to give clarity and support to GPs and employers working with them and managing these roles. It includes Scope of Practice, Supervision, and Induction and Preceptorship to ensure safe and effective practice.

Busy day ahead of me - a fully-booked private clinic, then teaching GPST3 half-day release, then catching train to London for #rcgpcouncil tomorrow. Will be working on the train to finalise what I'm going to say about #ThePAProject and @rcgp guidance thereon!
But #thePAProject concerns many doctors because it doesn't make sense, especially in GP - PAs are expensive, and their wage isn't justified by the work they can appropriately do. And using them to see undifferentiated presentations doesn't make sense.
This is exactly the problem with #ThePAProject #PhysicianAssociates, as was pointed out by @DrJohnCosgrove and @ImTheDoctor back in 2015...
