Read at least twice #DanielKahneman's (1934-2024) seminal "Thinking, Fast and Slow." Its wisdom is lodged within @EnclaveAcademy's microlearning modules—alongside @AdamMGrant's "Think Again." The Academy's #ThinkingHurts quip is "felt" using Dr. Kahneman's vital #System2Thinking.
5 Books That Will Help You Cultivate A Clear Mind:
1) Thinking, Fast and Slow by Daniel Kahneman
An essential read. It is one of the greatest and most engaging collections of insights into the human mind.

As @grok sees things:
“John R Dallas Jr's post delves into metacognition, highlighting how success can be mentally taxing due to the brain's discomfort during complex thinking processes, a concept he tags as #ThinkingHurts.
• The phrase ‘No brain pain, no mind gain’ suggests that intellectual growth requires enduring the challenges of deep, reflective thought, aligning with his broader theme of metacognitive struggle.
• This post connects to his earlier threads on metacognition, where he emphasizes the importance of thinking about thinking to enhance learning and decision-making, a topic also explored by the @childmindinst in related web results.”
#GrokGetsIt. Do we?😉

Success is disorienting. Its serpentine paths are dizzying. The brain’s physical discomfort during these metacognitive twists, turns, and other neurophysiological touch points can keep thinker-doers from revisiting lessons learned.

AI-human #metacollaborative thinking (AHMT) tools help people to think things through thoroughly together—with assistive metacognitive tech. #AHMT can be used to discern obscure developmental opportunities within the serpentine path toward situational success with metacognition.
#ThinkingHurts.
“My head hurts” surely you’ve said while thinking deeply.
Neuroscience confirms a brain’s physical discomfort when its mind is deeply engaged.
Don’t avoid productive bouts of metacognition’s ephemeral #BrainPain.
Take breaks—as needed.

#OwenCooper is a neuroelectrical transformer. His high-voltage performance in #Adolescence energizes brains in places rarely touched by bursts of electricity emanating from screens.
It’s painful. It’s gainful. It’s worth it!
Yes, #ThinkingHurts.
“No brain pain, no mind gain.”

#ThinkingHurts. "...when it’s nasty then it’s most important." For a megadose of metacognition's medicine for aching minds, read on.
"...it’s difficult to think well about ‘certainty’, ‘probability’, ‘perception’, etc. But it is, if possible, still more difficult to think, or try to think, really honestly about your life and other people's lives. And the trouble is that thinking about these things is not thrilling, but often downright nasty. And when it’s nasty then it’s most important." —Ludwig Wittgenstein, 16 November 1944
The Edge of Sentience: Risk and Precaution in Humans, Other Animals, and AI by @birchlse, offers "...a comprehensive precautionary framework designed to help us reach ethically sound, evidence-based decisions despite our uncertainty."

With profound gratitude to Jonathan Birch, a generous public intellectual to follow.

#Sapience names your ability to apply knowledge, experience, understanding, common sense, and/or insight.
#Sentience names your ability to feel and sense, yet not necessarily with your complex cognitive functions such as awareness, reasoning, or higher-order metacognition (HOM).

@bigthink spoke with philosopher @birchlse about how #ArtificialIntelligence presents an interesting, a bit sinister—thus a wee uncomfortable—counterexample to all known #intelligence.

#ThinkingHurts. Neuroscientists witness deep thinking’s and overthinking’s discomfort in the human brain. #BrainPain often accompanies overthinking.
“Underthinking is a greater risk than overthinking. Not thinking at all about thinking is the greatest risk.” —John R. Dallas, Jr.
If you're an "OVERTHINKER," watch this:
“No brain pain, no mind gain” we quip at @EnclaveAcademy—to encourage preparedness to safely tolerate, navigate, and mitigate the cognitive disconnect #metacognition may cause.
#ThinkingHurts, we warn.
#HigherOrderThinking (#HoT) increases #System2Thinking’s pain threshold.
Everyone wants to take care of their body…
But no one takes care of their brain.
Most people just ignore it until something goes wrong.
So, here’s everything you need to know to heal & protect your brain:

#ThinkingHurts. Thinking about your “thinking’s thinkingness” is invasive. Essentially deep #metacognition requires your cognitive consent and #SelfTrust. You mightn’t like—or dislike—what #introspection reveals about your learned array of #ThinkingSkills. https://t.co/rrEC7knrKE

#SelfAwareness grows deeper, wider, and higher when we #ThinkerDoers mindfully choose to “extend our minds” with #metacognition. With strategic metacognitive learning, knowledge, and regulation—we strengthen our #CognitiveEngagement in pursuits we call worthy of #System2Thinking.
#Procrastination with #metacognition puts at risk outcomes of decisions made—without the mission-critical pause to rethink choices among learned mindsets and #WaysOfThinking (#WoTs).
Neuroscientists say, #ThinkingHurts.
“No brain pain, no mind gain,” we quip at @EnclaveAcademy.

“#Underthinking is a greater risk than overthinking. Not thinking at all about thinking is the greatest risk.” —@JohnRDallasJr
#MetacognitiveProcrastination’s sporadic benefits can wire our minds to find pleasure in #procrastination—until its #RiskRewardRatio veers dangerously.
Irritation of #metacognition is its ignition. The word “rubs our neurons” in rough ways—n.b., NOT wrong ways. #ThinkingHurts. Metacognitively thinking about thinking hurts a wee bit to a lot more. “My head hurts” is a sign of gain.
“No brain pain, no mind gain.” —@JohnRDallasJr

#ThinkingHurts we're told by #neuroscientists. When your mind is busy thinking with #EffortfulThinking, do you occasionally say, "My head hurts?" It does. Don't avoid #neurodiscomfort caused by #HigherOrderThinking's #System2Thinking. It will pass. "No brain pain, no mind gain."

#ThinkingHurts. Difficult thinking “hurts” more than easy thinking.
“No brain pain, no mind gain,” we painfully quip at @enclave_center.
Effortful #System2Thinking’s higher-order thinking kicks up a notch the #brain’s discomfort—and increases the #metacognitive mind’s rewards.
Difficult #ThinkingHurts. Neuroscientists report evidence of physical impact on the brain of #HigherOrderThinking’s pinpricks, taps, or punches of discomfort. Bear it. The gain’s worth it. “No brain pain, no mind gain,” #ThinkerDoer Enclavians smilingly intone at @EnclaveAcademy.

#ThinkHardThings to #DoHardThings. You sense when a “difficult thing” requires “difficult thinking.” Shifting the mind’s gears to #System2Thinking’s #HigherOrderThinking requires using the #CognitiveClutch that @EnclaveAcademy teaches #ThinkerDoers to use—to drive toward success.
#ThinkingHurts. If it doesn’t, one may not be thinking “enough.” #Neuroscientists say discomfort is felt in the brain during #HigherOrderThinking (HOT). #Metacognition’s #BrainPain ranges from a pinprick to a sucker punch. Does #PainAvoidance keep #voters from effortful thinking?
#LowPropensityThinkers (LPTs) are unfamiliar with or unused to #HigherOrderThinking (HOT) skills. For decision-making they default to #LowerOrderThinking (LOT). Decision-critical HOT #metacognition is required for #voting. LPTs “cast their LOT”—if and when they cast their #votes.

#ThinkingHurts.
#Thinking’s #PainPoints are datapoints.
#ThinkerDoers push through the 1-to-10 scale for #PainfulThinking.
Fleeting to paralyzing pain of “effortful thinking” contributes to causation of #phronemophobia—i.e., the #FearOfThinking (#FoT)—@EnclaveAcademy suggests.
Hurts to Think: The Unpleasant Truth About Mental Effort
Recent research shows that mental exertion is often linked to unpleasant feelings, challenging the belief that people enjoy mentally demanding tasks.
A meta-analysis of 170 studies found that greater mental effort results in greater discomfort across various tasks and populations.
Interestingly, the negative impact of mental effort is less pronounced in Asian countries, possibly due to cultural differences in education.
Despite the discomfort, people still choose challenging tasks for the rewards, indicating that motivation lies more in the outcomes than the effort itself.

White Cop shoots unarmed Black women during protest. White Cop praised as Hero and the Black Women was labeled as an extreme threat. #thinkinghurts 😏 @Tw1nty

LOL. #ThinkingHurts
I attacked them by asking them to define the words they were using

@Joey_Galloway @GeorgiaFootball @GoBearcatsFB @OhioStateFB @AlabamaFTBL @OU_Football On OU “Speaking of not having an impressive win, they were down at the half to KU.” On CU “Because I don’t react as much to a tough win as long as it’s a win.” Congratulations on defeating yourself with your own circular logic (or lack thereof). 😆 #thinkinghurts
