Chaired a comprehensive review meeting at Ladakh Bhawan Delhi with senior officials of the Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Civil Aviation, IAF, AAI for commencing civil operation at Thoise airport in Nubra Valley and Kargil airport, to boost regional connectivity and tourism in the UT of Ladakh.
Major outcomes of the meeting:
1. At Thoise Airport, Indian Air Force has approved allotment of 5 acres of land for construction of a new civil terminal in Nubra.
2. Runway recarpeting at Thoise is underway for a November completion deadline.
3. Targeting civil operations by December 2026 from an old Chartered flight terminal at Thoise, after refurbishing it.
4. At Kargil Airport, a joint inspection with Indian Air Force, Airport Authority of India and Ministry of Civil Aviation is scheduled for September 1, to assess civil operation readiness.
Besides fulfilling Hon’ble Prime Minster, Shri @narendramodi ji’s vision of boosting region connectivity and inclusive development of UT Ladakh, the flight operation at these airports will further unlock the optimum tourism potential in border areas like Turtuk, Siachen Base Camp, Kargil & Drass.
