As #juniorfaculty I have been learning SO much from brilliant #researchers here at @PittTweet (... I'm like a kid in a candy store). Yesterday I had the incredible opportunity to build new connections and share our #visualresearchmethods with the @PittPalCare team and LOVED it!
There have been great talks about #media, #visualresearchmethods, #socialjustice, and #decolonization at the #APA2021
Iβm motivated to apply all the things Iβve learned in my own work.
Also, a shoutout to the amazing presentations from Puerto Rican psychologists πͺπ½π΅π·
Looks great fun - won't it be fantastic when we can get together again and share #visualresearchmethods ?
Over the past few weeks, Savannah @PhotoEthics has delivered excellent workshops for our postgraduates on
#photographyethics and #visualresearchmethods. Find out more below β¬οΈ
I have developed training for postgraduate students and researchers on understanding & ethically implementing visual methods. The programme is delivered in three 3-hour online sessions. Email me if you would like to see offered at your university: https://t.co/XcNsaAPko0
#ENT_researchers here comes my midweek read on visually re- and deconstructing women's entrepreneurship. Great piece by @ProfKPritchard @mackenzie_davey and Helen Cooper! #genderequity #visualresearchmethods
Congratulations to Katrina Pritchard, Kate Mackenzie Davey and Helen Cooper on their ISBJ Best Paper 2019 Award. If you haven't read it yet, you should now:

@angelawiseman @tlcoats3 I have questions as well. I assumed that if a social media account is public, then the info is public as well, and you can always deidentify when you present/publish. But with websites like Twitter, that kind of data is re-identifiable. It's complicated #VisualResearchMethods
@EzinneOfoegbu @tlcoats3 Q5: I think one of the most important things is that we really need to grapple with ethics and have conversations beyond how to do IRB. The more I think about this the more I have questions. #VisualResearchMethods
@EzinneOfoegbu A5: I think a lot of my questions just revolve around the ethics and practicality of a study in this venue. There's a lot of unknowns and despite all the reading thus far, I need to do a lot more learning! #visualresearchmethods
@tlcoats3 Thank you for joining us today! Feel free to continue the conversation using #VisualResearchMethods.
@tlcoats3 Q5: What advice can you offer to researchers interested in developing a study involving digital images or social media? What more would you like to learn about this method before developing a study? #VisualResearchMethods
@EzinneOfoegbu @tlcoats3 One thing I've learned is that children often know more than me about technology. That's not really a challenge, but it's exciting. #VisualResearchMethods
@EzinneOfoegbu @tlcoats3 I'm always scared to answer that question...but IRB affects what and how - sometimes in ways that are good, sometimes in ways that cause more bureaucracy. Yup. I said it #VisualResearchMethods
@tlcoats3 Q4: What are some challenges youβve faced while developing a study on digital images or social media? How did you overcome them? #VisualResearchMethods
@EzinneOfoegbu @tlcoats3 A3: There's a quality of the internet being "forever" and the fact that many of us are not tech experts. Easy to stash a hard copy of an artifact in a locked file cabinet in a locked office, but I'm not sure I know what the online equivalent of that is. #visualresearchmethods
@Heather89358317 @EzinneOfoegbu @tlcoats3 Wow. That's interesting. I feel like that really stifles the actual reality of online interaction in some ways. Maybe not problematic in every study, but definitely might be in some, particularly those focused on SM was a medium/space rather than a tool. #visualresearchmethods
@EzinneOfoegbu @tlcoats3 A2: Like others, it makes sense to me to do a combined analysis using interviews and content analysis, but I do think there's possibly something interesting in letting images stand purely on their own and sticking with pure content analysis! #visualresearchmethods
@tlcoats3 Q3: What are some ethical issues to consider when conducting this kind of research? How might you approach them? #VisualResearchMethods
@EzinneOfoegbu @tlcoats3 A1: I'm currently working with middle school students on an "unselfie" project, and we're doing a lot of work thinking through self-representation on SM! This is more teaching focused but could see a great research study coming out of it in the future! #visualresearchmethods
