Private Watson died of his wounds at the Battle of Batoche 140 years ago today. I decorated the Watson monument in honour of his service to Canada. 🍁 #rememberwatson #ripprivatewatson #watsonmemorial #watsonmonument #battleofbatoche #northwestrebellion #northwestresistance

No civic Remembrance ceremony for Pte. Watson this year. His memorial was moved from City Hall last May. I put a wreath & flag at his memorial now in a cemetery. Soldiers like Pte. Watson, who died for Canada, should be remembered #watsonmemorial #ripprivatewatson #rememberwatson

It's Memorial Day weekend. Here's a video of the Watson Memorial before it was removed from its place of honour at City Hall. #watsonmemorial #privatewatson #rememberwatson #RIPPrivateWatson #memorialday

@Vets4FreeCanada The first things to be toppled in a regime change are the conquered people’s monuments. We live in the world’s “first post-national state”. What need have we for a dead nation’s heroes, except to remind us this land was once Canada? #WatsonMemorial

This is so heartbreaking, I can’t believe our country has become this dishonourable to our war dead! Soldiers don’t create the war or politics that led to it, they serve their country to protect our freedom for everyone. This is horrible, We Will Remember Him. #watsonmemorial

Today, the Private Watson Memorial was removed from St. Catharines City Hall. It was there for 139 yrs. Watson gave his life in the line of duty for Canada. We will remember him. 🌸 #watsonmemorial #watsonmonument #rememberwatson #ourhomestc #weremember #werememberthem #ptewatson

OTD in 1885, Pvt. Alexander Watson was mortally wounded at the Battle of Batoche. His statue still stands at City Hall in his hometown of St. Cathatines. It's the first statue erected to memorialize a Canadian soldier. #rememberwatson #myhomestc #watsonmemorial #battleofbatoche
