The #magnificent #webfooted #salamander #Bolitoglossa #magnifica (#Plethodontidae, #Urodela, Amphibia) is an #endangered #species due to loss of natural habitat, #endemic to tropical/subtropical lower mountain forests in Panama (southern Cordillera de Talamanca-Barú Massif).
The Plethodontidae are also named #lungless salamanders. Although many of this taxin do not even have a free-living #larvalstage, but have a direct development instead and giving birth to miniature versions of the adults, which makes them independent of proximity to water, the members of this clade lack lungs. #Respiration occurs exclusively through the #skin.
Also Bolitoglossa magnifica is assumed to have a direct development without an externally aquatic larval stage. The species is difficult to find and was described in 2005 by Hanken et al.. It was found in oakforests with bromeliads and wooden remnants being covered with mosses. There the salamander could be found for example under logs.
