The Prime Minister’s Focal Person on Polio Eradication, Ayesha Raza Farooq, and National EOC Coordinator, Dr. Muhammad Anwar-ul-Haq, met today with the Chief Secretary of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Mr. Shahab Ali Shah, in Peshawar to discuss the evolving polio situation in the province. Ayesha Raza Farooq shared a detailed briefing on current programme priorities and the critical challenges hampering eradication efforts—particularly in the southern districts of KP where recent polio cases have been reported. Emphasis was placed on the urgent need to resolve persistent access barriers and ensure the uninterrupted presence and performance of frontline vaccinators in high-risk union councils. Muhammad Anwaar Ul Haq, the National Coordinator presented a targeted strategy to improve the quality of campaigns and strengthen routine immunization, with a specific focus on South Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where access challenges had previously hindered progress. The Chief Secretary appreciated the visit and reaffirmed the provincial government’s commitment to intensifying efforts to interrupt virus transmission.
