From the parents of Linda Brown and Ruby Bridges to Thurgood Marshall, Dr. King, Malcolm and Fred Hampton, Black civil rights leaders haVe ALWAYS fought #statusquo #zipcodediscrimination. Their solution was and always will be #SchoolChoice.
#statusquo is dead, it’s defenders just haven’t accepted it yet. But be clear, there is no way in hell that the 15% of kids educated in charter and magnet schools will ever accept sending their own kids to failed schools in the hometown. #Zipcodediscrimination is on life support.
@KamalaHarris claims to have benefited from #SchoolChoice, the state’s reaction to #zipcodediscrimination. Then she went to an HBCU. Now, at the height of pandering, she’s supporting the system that segregated her and is against parents choosing schools started by Black ppl.
If @KamalaHarris REALLY cared about integrating public schools, then she would start w dismantling the #statusquo #apartheidschools created by #zipcodediscrimination and she would support #schoolchoice. But how would she pander to the teachers’ unions? Our kids first.
It’s easy to look at busing & see the limitations today. Yet it is America’s first acknowledgement that #zipcodediscrimination is real and must be corrected. It is also evidence of how hard it is and was to free Black kids from failed schools. Today we have charters, vouchers etc
I’ve spoken w @NAACP chapters all over the country who cannot accept the implications of #zipcodediscrimination and who are willing to DEMAND that national supports #schoolcchoice and charter schools as an option for all of our children.
My man, that’s our point. #SchoolChoice advocates are AGAINST #zipcodediscrimination. Through redlining & other such practices, our kids have been denied access. Charters, magnets and what Dr. King called “educational parks” are the beta for choice. Universal choice is next.
You can’t be pro-liberation of Black and LatinX children AND pro #zipcodediscrimination. Academic redlining is #apartheid. By virtue of the fact that neighborhood public schools limit kids to racist classist “zones” the process is inherently confining and subjugating.
#Redlining, housing discrimination by race, goes hand in hand w the #zipcodediscrimination of #statusquo #apartheid neighborhood school segregation. It is, therefore, fitting that striking teachers form a ‘red line’ of shirts to choke children’s opportunities.
Arguing for ‘more resources’ to schools segregated by #zipcodediscrimination is the argument of ‘separate but equal’ of the 1896 Plessy v Ferguson. Arguing to keep kids in schools that are unconstitutional but w more money is deeply rooted in America’s racist ethos.
When all of the red shirt wearing striking teachers are done fighting for more pay and better benefits, ask them to separate their defense of the #statusquo of #zipcodediscrimination of today and the #zipcodediscrimination found unconstitutional in 1954. What’s different?
The most successful government schools at producing academic gains and/or objective performance are magnet, test or White. The first two remove #zipcodediscrimination the last enforced the inherent racism w/n this system. #statusquosucks.
Fascinating, a ‘progressive’ who benefitted from #schoolchoice when her family moved FOR BETTER SCHOOLS and saw how others in her family were harmed by the lack of it, is fighting for the #statusquo racist classist #zipcodediscrimination. #Standforkids and w our community.
These LA teachers striking against privatization + demanding smaller classrooms/more support for their students is a whole 2019 mood

Here we have Exhibit A, a middle schooler from our Harlem charter school, TEACHING 3rd graders from our Bridgeport, CT charter school HOW TO CODE. Now you explain to me who is harmed by #schoolchoice & I’ll multiply that by the millions harmed by #statusquo #zipcodediscrimination
This image could be taken today as Black families still need federal action to break the back of local #zipcodediscrimination @MCMyChoice https://t.co/tNXQDN2JeX
@howardblume has written a fair an honest depiction of the new frontier in urban education. Parents & educators have tired of the promise of #zipcodediscrimination & are choosing new schools. This is a powerful piece. It’s worth reading. https://t.co/c3EoKAZWzN
Get the point? #zipcodediscrimination is real. Too bad @Thedemocrats are more concerned about unions than they are about children. https://t.co/QDG1ofjfKj
It’s LITERALLY criminal. Its unconstitutional to deny ppl access based upon their race. #zipcodediscrimination IS illegal. If a parent denied her child education to the point they could not read, she’d be arrested & charged w educational neglect. But schools get away w it. https://t.co/yesQfcaRHn
#Statusquo makes the arguments FOR #schoolchoice. Blaming charters, which are 6% of the ed pie, is like blaming lifeboats for the Titanic sinking. #ZipCodeDiscrimination made the problem that #schoolchoice is trying to solve. https://t.co/VJqa2nczbG
