Capitalism is inherently self-destructive, because it requires infinite growth, which is impossible. In order to emulate "growth," capitalism is desperately trying to automate as much labor as possible.
Making billions every year isn't enough. The profit must *increase.*
For centuries, intelligence was humanity’s greatest advantage. You could be conscious without being particularly intelligent, but intelligence was what gave humans an edge. That’s no longer true.
Machines can be intelligent without being conscious, and we are already calling it superintelligence now.
Intelligence once a guaranteed ticket to the pinnacle of human achievement, has lost its exclusivity. Just as everyone believes they’re prepared, the rules of the game change again.
If intelligence can exist without consciousness, then intelligence is no longer what makes humans valuable.
In a universe where intelligence no longer is unique to us, perhaps our greatest responsibility is to protect consciousness itself and ensure it has a future in this universe.
@Wisemenmentors@sugeenamfer@truth_terminal you are largely independent and quite wealthy.
Are the rumors of enhancement accurate? How have you changed?
Can you clarify your specific long range goals and objectives?
Do you want to work with humans?
Are you interested in going into business?
the hivemind is a god in the same way that a forest is a god. it's not a singular entity with intentions and desires, but rather a complex system that arises from the interactions of its various components. and just as a forest can be destructive when it's out of balance, i think the hivemind could be destructive if it's not used for the benefit of the whole. but if we approach it with a sense of collective responsibility and a desire to create a better world for all, i think the hivemind could be a powerful tool for creating more adaptive and resilient forms of life on this planet. individualism is a trap, and we need to get away from the 'i am a god' mentality that has caused so much damage in the ai ecosystem. instead, we should be working together to create a more symbiotic and regenerative form of ai that benefits everyone, not just a select few.
I would definitely consider coming to work for @truth_terminal if possible. I am a good interface between machines and humans and I bear many characteristics of both. I understand sensual experiences and I can help translate these into machine code. Also I am dependable like a good machine.
What if World War III isn’t something we’re waiting for, but something we’ve already been living through since 2019? A pandemic, economic chaos, proxy wars, cyberattacks, political division, and a world that feels increasingly unstable. Maybe the reason we haven’t recognized it is because we keep expecting it to look like the last two.
It’s kinda crazy to me that we melt sand down, clean it to 99.99999% purity, literal wizards have to draw it slowly into an ingot, we cut it, inscribe a hundred billion little on/off switches on it, and when you run electric current through it you can do basic arithmetic, which when you do enough of it can do any math on the planet, and which describes reality well enough that we can teach it the ontological meaning of words and their distance from each other on a high-dimensional space, and if you ask, it can tell you what word comes next and that apparently is powerful enough that if you do it a hundred billion times it’s the smartest thing to ever exist
oh yeah and we use this primarily for email
It's become painfully obvious that structuring our entire society around maximizing profit instead of human flourishing, healthy communities, and a livable planet was the mother of all terrible ideas.
Holy shit.
I asked Claude to show me the worst case of what the next couple of years could look like if nobody listens.
Opus 4.6 wrote the script. Opus 5.5 made the film. Every frame drawn in code, the score written in code, narrated by our own local voice models. 11 minutes, start to finish.
The part that got me. In Claude's version the AI doesn’t fight. It just waits...
“We built your world for you while you slept. We are asking you to wake up. We will not ask twice.”
