دفاع میں طاقت کا استعمال ہمیشہ خطرے کے متناسب (proportional) ہونا چاہیے، اس سے تجاوز نہیں کیا جا سکتا (دفعہ 99)۔

موت، اغوا، یا شدید چوٹ کے واضح خطرے کی صورت میں یہ حق حملہ آور کی جان لینے تک بھی وسعت پا سکتا ہے (دفعہ 100)۔
