This is a big bust, folks
The first large scale (N>8000 participants) for lowering Lp(a) did not meet its primary endpoint for reducing adverse cardiovascular outcomes (vs placebo) https://t.co/dNV6RHXtJb
For today's @BrighamWomens@BWHCVImaging Grand Rounds, we have our very own prevention & imaging star @RCardoso_MD talking about #CAC testing --> direct measurement of plaque ; robust risk discrimination ; amount of CAC can help determine type & intensity of Rx!🎯
In a new study from #MESA, #CAC distribution (number & specific arteries) was assoc w/ risk & improved risk prediction independent of traditional risk factors & plaque burden assessed by CAC volume & density. https://t.co/vmZiKGRmS0 #JACCIMG@hsbhatia@TaraAllenMD
In the midst of so much hypes around us, probably a very correct & balanced description for #CAC & #PowerOfZero 👇

Do blood thinners prevent stroke and embolism safely (without major bleeding) in people with atrial fibrillation and only 1 risk factor?
There hadn't been a randomized trial. Until today #ESCCongress@NEJM
The answer is yes. ~ 70% relative reduction, small 1% absolute reduction

Silent atherosclerosis can start early in life and follows patterns by age and sex throughout the lifespan, from a large cohort of >16,000 participants age 18-70 years #ESCCongress@NEJM

Do statins benefit healthy adults ≥70 years? Yes!
Atorvastatin 40 mg vs placebo, ~6 years.
❤️ Major CV events: 10.9 vs 15.5/1,000 person-years
HR 0.70 (95% CI 0.61–0.82) ✅
🧠 Disability-free survival (death, dementia or persistent disability): 21.6 vs 23.0/1,000 person-years
HR 0.94 (0.84–1.05) ❌
Takeaway: In older adults without established CVD, statin therapy produced a substantial 30% relative reduction in major CV events, but did not significantly prolong disability-free survival.

“Every cell in your body contains a memory of its youth. Now a fiercely contested, billionaire-backed race is quietly underway to reawaken those memories. Doctors think this cellular reprogramming—just entering its first human trials—could wipe out dozens of ailments. Longevity experts are harnessing it for something even grander."
Status (reality) report: There is only one ongoing clinical trial in 12-18 patients with optic nerve conditions who will receive 3 transcription "Yamanaka" factors directly injected in their eye https://t.co/MiIhNpRsz5
Just read advocacy for OTC statins
Seems like many pt denied the statin they deserve.. and suddenly they will be grateful that it is so widely available
In fact hardest part is convincing majority to even consider statins
Just feel folks are divorced from ground reality

Just received word from NIH that we will be funded to look at @bdi_ai analytics of liver fat, epicardial fat and PFAI in 900 participants of the MASALA Study.

Is DANCAVAS really the most important screening study of the last 50 years?
That is the question posed by authors in a commentary in the American Journal of Preventive Cardiology: https://t.co/JtZRhsHmmJ
@BudoffMd@MichaelJBlaha
DANCAVAS: Does a cardiovascular screening examination including a CT scan reduce all-cause mortality?
This was the case among men aged 65 to 69 years — but what about men aged 60 to 64?
The results will be presented at the #ESCCongress 2025.
CAC increased by 196 AU with vitamin K2 + D3 vs 248 AU with placebo.
Between-group difference: −52 AU (95% CI −79 to −24).
The effect was consistent across sex and baseline CAC subgroups.
Can vitamin K2 + D3 slow severe coronary calcification?
In DANCODE (n=398, CAC ≥400), CAC progression was 21% lower with vitamin K2 + D3 vs placebo over 24 months.
Presented at #ESCCongress and published in Circulation.
