My dad treasured his garden tools. He cleaned them, sharpened them, and looked after them properly. I’m fairly sure he had the same spade, fork and secateurs for my entire childhood.
He didn’t buy cheap tools that lasted a season. He saved up, bought quality, and expected them to last a lifetime.
Somewhere along the way we’ve accepted that replacing things is normal. It isn’t. Buying well, caring for what we own, repairing rather than replacing, and valuing craftsmanship over convenience are old values worth returning to.
Fewer things. Better things. Made to last, looked after, and treasured.
