Happy to announce that we @chessinslums have been selected as one of the 7 winners of the world bank youth innovation fund.
Our proposal centered on designing and implementing a Chess and STEM project for secondary school students in low income communities. The grant will help us expand that vision through our Innovation Hub in Yaba.
My deepest gratitude to Precious Oziegbe, Evangeline Inyang, and Levon Gyozalyan (World bank colleagues) for believing in our work and championing it all the way to the final presentation in Washington, D.C. It was nerve wrecking even for me just watching virtually whilst they gave an awe inspiring final presentation.
None of this would have been possible without their conviction and support.
It took us two years of failed applications and due diligence before making the final selection this year. A reminder to never give up despite rejection.
It possible to do great things from a small place. This is Day 1
LEGENDARY JOE - ARE HIS WRITINGS AI WRITTEN?
1. Whenever a man’s craft transcends the ordinary, the mediocre quickly gather to trade in rumours of sorcery or tricks. They said the legendary Baba D.O. Fagunwa communed with the spirits of the marine kingdom to fetch his timeless tales 😆.
The tree that bears the sweetest fruit must endure the most stones. This skepticism did not begin today, and it certainly will not bury the stride of the Legendary.
Extraordinary grace has always baffled the pedestrian mind.
2. Observe closely: those who peddle these whispers are often those whose own names are completely detached from anything of substance or worth. They merely project the cold weight of their own insecurities and unspoken envy.
They question their destiny: "How can one man flourish so effortlessly in this divine gift, while I have no drop of talent to boast of?"
My brother, I am not the architect of your ungifted profile. If you invested half the energy you squander on envy into searching your own soul, you would surely find a spark where you, too, could outperform the rest.
3. I have been writing actively since early in the millennium, and by "active", I mean writing letters, essays, articles, for classmates, teachers, friends and parent alike.
If I am to be accused of anything, let it be laziness, otherwise, there is no reasonable excuse why I should not have authored at least ten books by now. So yes - manage your envy accordingly. We did not start today.
4. When I wrote Toefl in 2012, the examiners did not just grade a test; they witnessed a deluge. I scored full marks for writing, submitting 3,000 words for an expected 300 word article.
I only missed a flawless overall score by a mere twelve marks- six lost in Speaking because I was born with a proud, natural stutter, and six in Listening because the British accent threw me slightly off course.
But as for the written word? I was not trained folks; I was born a writer.
5. All said, writing with the aid of AI is no crime. "The world moves, and we must move with it." Technological advancement is designed to elevate our innate skills, sharpen our talents, and simplify our heavy tasks.
It is the exact same rigid mindset that once made people condemn automatic transmission vehicles, claiming you had to sweat over a manual stick shift to be crowned a "real" driver.
My only caution is this: a genuinely talented writer must never completely surrender their creative soul to a machine, lest we rob the literary world of its raw, irreplaceable originality.
6. But as for me - The Legendary J.O.E, any good writer or reader who feasts on my articles knows beyond a shadow of doubt that no algorithm can replicate my spirit.
An artificial tree can mimic the leaves, but it can never yield the fruit."
I belong to that rare, endangered breed of literary architects who seamlessly weave a combination of figures of speech, deep African proverbs, unforgettable quotes, and biting satire into the fabric of every single piece. Your AI cannot manufacture that depth - at least, not yet.
7. But let us even play the fool for a moment and assume, without conceding, that a machine drafts my essays. That very same AI is at your fingertips, entirely free of charge. I dare you:
Do yours, give it the prompt and then place it beside mine and let the people decide whether both rivers drink from the same source. 😆

3 Things You Should Never Mock People For
1. Age
Age is one of life's few guarantees. If fortune permits, today's youth becomes tomorrow's elder. To mock someone for being old is to laugh at a destination you are also travelling toward.
Time is not an insult; it is a privilege denied to many.
2. Marriage
Marriage is not a race, nor is it an examination where the first person to finish receives the highest score. Every life unfolds according to its own rhythm and circumstances.
Some marry early and find peace. Some marry early and find regret. Some marry late and find happiness. Some never marry and still live meaningful, fulfilled lives. The timing of another person's journey is often hidden behind realities we neither know nor understand.
A fruit does not ripen because another fruit ripened yesterday. Each tree responds to its own season. Mocking someone for being unmarried is often judging a chapter without having read the entire story.
3. Childlessness
Few forms of mockery are as cruel as ridiculing someone for not having children. The truth is that we rarely know the silent struggles people carry. Behind a smile may be years of prayers, medical consultations, disappointments, grief, or personal choices that deserve respect.
Children are a blessing, not a trophy for boasting or a weapon for humiliation. Parenthood is one of many ways a life can bear fruit. Some raise biological children. Some raise adopted children. Some nurture communities, mentor generations, build institutions, create opportunities, and leave legacies that outlive them.
In the end, age, marriage, and children are matters deeply tied to time, circumstance, providence, and personal destiny. Wisdom teaches us to replace mockery with empathy, because every person is fighting battles, waiting for seasons, or carrying stories that are invisible to the eye.
Good Afternoon Severally...
BE HUMBLE - LIFE WILL GO ON WITHOUT YOU
One of the greatest illusions power, fame, wealth and influence can give a man is the dangerous belief that the world revolves around him.
It does not.
The market opened before you arrived and it will still open long after you leave. The river never stops flowing because one fisherman refused to cast his net. The great and illustrious MKO departed, yet not even Opebi where his estate sat paused existence for a second.
History is brutally honest with human pride. Men once called “irreplaceable” now exist only in photographs, statues and fading memories - yet the world kept moving without interruption.
Humility therefore is not weakness; it is wisdom. It is the understanding that relevance is temporary, positions are seasonal and applause is rented, not owned.
No man is bigger than time. No woman is greater than destiny. No leader is larger than the people.
The graveyard remains the richest university of humility - filled with men who once thought society could not breathe without them.
Learn to contribute greatly without worshipping yourself excessively. Build, lead, inspire and leave footprints of value - but never carry yourself like the axis upon which humanity spins.
As the elders would say: “The forest remains a forest even when the biggest tree falls.”
Life goes on. Always. And fast too.

THE RAM BEYOND THE RITUAL - EID BEYOND THE FEASTING
1. The ram represents Obidience over Emotions.
The ram reminds humanity of the triumph of faith over personal attachment. It teaches that true devotion is proven not merely by words, but by willingness to obey divine principles even when inconvenient or painful.
And there is no divine principle that demands shedding of human blood for Allah's sake. No true muslim will forget this.
2. Sacrifice for a higher purpose.
Eid reminds humanity that greatness often demands sacrifice - comfort, ego, greed, pride, and selfishness. The ram symbolizes surrendering something valuable in pursuit of something nobler.
If Allah refused the life of Ibrahim's son yesterday, he won't demand another man's son's life today.
3. Divine Provision
The replacement of the sacrifice with a ram symbolizes Allah’s mercy and provision. It is a reminder that when people act with sincerity and faith, God creates unexpected openings.
If Allah is sufficient in provision, he is also competent enough to defend himself and will not need man's intervention in that regard.
4. Compassion and Sharing
The meat of the ram is traditionally shared among family, neighbours, and the less privileged. This transforms the festival from a private celebration into a social act of generosity and community bonding.
The lesson is clear: A celebration that does not touch the hungry is incomplete. Feed the hungry not spill their blood.
5. Victory Over the Animal Nature of Man
Spiritually, the ram also symbolizes conquering the “inner beast” - greed, anger, envy, arrogance, and uncontrolled desires. The true sacrifice of Eid is not merely on the slaughter slab, but within the human heart.
The knife is meant to cut arrogance before it cuts flesh. Kill the evil in man's heart before you kill the Ram.
Happy Eid-el-Kabir my muslim friend.

Politics, Power, and Public Sympathy: The Rivers State Drama Nobody Wants to Fully Explain
My thoughts 💭
Fubara WIKE APC #Fair_Treatment_For_SevEN#gameoverse
Now that Fubara has stepped down from the APC primaries, I hope political novices will learn a lesson or two.
This is not a way of glorifying the mismanagement of authority by all involved in the rivers crisis, but a call for the masses to understand that politics is politics
A HEART FULL OF GRATITUDE THANK YOU, SURULERE CONSTITUENCY 1
With deep gratitude and humility, I sincerely thank the great people of Surulere Constituency 1 for the overwhelming confidence and support shown to me at the APC primaries today!
@LegendaryJoe The clause “IF” is the restraint I needed not to worry over the whole proposal… because it would still be “if” after 2035.
Good morning LJ
@Morris_Monye This is the same man who wanted Desmond to “have his own mind” and ignore his godfather, yet he is now apologising online to many people he has probably never even met, all because he wants to win an election through Peter Obi 😃😃
