Trying to understand and play a small part in looking after our natural habitats.

On 5 November #RememberHedgehogs to keep them safe.

🍂 Don't build a #bonfire on a pile of leaves
🔦 Use a torch to look for animals inside before you light it

Help keep our prickly friends safe this autumn by checking your bonfire for hedgehogs! 🦔 🔥 https://t.co/wtBwmBRGCI

“Sustainable food systems are underpinned by a healthy environment and thriving wildlife.” says The Wildlife Trusts’ @JoanEdwards1. UK Gov must do more to support farmers in developing nature-friendly ways to manage their land for the sake of our future! https://t.co/Yz3CGGTXPP

Planting trees doesn't create an actual **ecosystem**, which is composed of 1,000s of coevolved, interconnected and interdependant species.

Natural expansion of existing old forests, on the other hand, does.

Why do official policy makers continue to ignore such basic realities?

As Bonfire Night approaches, remember to check for hibernating hedgehogs.

Search your bonfire using a broom or pole and move your prickly guest to a safer spot. 🦔

The UK Government has broken the law – it has failed to publish its nature recovery targets on time. We need these targets to restore nature – fast. https://t.co/JRyIjsLYZ8 (1/3)

Balloon and lantern releases create litter and #plasticpollution in landscapes and seas that can harm the environment, wildlife and livestock. Celebrate special occasions and loved ones by planting trees, wildflowers, or bee and butterfly gardens instead!

A wonderful array of epiphytes on this old oak in the woods, including a buckler fern nestled in a crook higher up.

Anywhere in the world, this is how you know you're in a rainforest.

The black faced mountainy along the #WildAtlanticWay

Part of our heritage now cause ya know they're pre 911🤔

And they feed the world🙄

And wipe out nearly everything they come across including original heritage like ground nesting birds

Should be banned on mountainy areas

Fantastic photos and a positive thought about the solstice before the clocks go back. Cheered me up 🙂

[Feargal Sharkey @Feargal_Sharkey]

Last Nov gov passed what it called the "World-leading Environment Act".

So world-leading the law now requires gov to "laid before Parliament", targets for air quality, water & biodiversity by 31st Oct.

Gov has just announced it's not going to do that 🤔

@Watts_SH After all those great days in the field, I suppose a bit of a dip isn't surprising. Maybe you need a break. But it'll come back. You just need to adjust to data analysis mode. Good luck!

Kingfisher fact: there is not a single scrap of blue pigment in their feathers 🪶

Specially modified layers of cells scatter light - making a kingfisher's colouring appear more vibrant than it is.

Goodness me. Both main points wrong. Not 2k unless you choose that, & with renewables outstripping gas on low price in many places that seems to be exactly the venue to help meet cost of living challenges. Perhaps we are living in parallel universes? I wonder which one is real?
