@rickperlstein And if you’re interested in coal mining history, that’s a rich area. Several years ago, we grabbed a cup of coffee when I was looking to get into U of C. The writing sample that got me in was a project I did on the riotous early history of Spring Valley. Lots there.

@rickperlstein Princeton. There you may be interested in the Owen Lovejoy homestead. He was an abolitionist preacher and congressman. His house was a stop on the Underground Railroad. Definitely check out the Hegeler Carus mansion. Great gilded age extravagance.
