@CannHallCllr@Labourstone
Would you mind finding out:
- Why these letters about fly tipping have been fly tipped?
- Why our street is still not being cleaned or even checked for weeks on end, contrary to the contract?
Apparently @wfcouncil is concerned about fly tipping...
So concerned, they have come and dumped letters about flytipping on the front steps of houses all around here, instead of putting them through the letter box.
Just to add to the street mess.
Meanwhile, although @wfcouncil say our streets are meant to be swept twice a week, we never actually see a street cleaner.
Even obvious health hazards like dog poo get left for weeks on end while they gradually decompose.

1: it's mystifying why @hackneycouncil is still doubling down on a design that fails danger reduction badly at Pembury Circus; 2: see thread for WHY; 3: HT our fantastic local groups! Great campaign from @hackney_cycling , and they're not alone in their skills & determination.
An astonishing thread from our neighbouring campaign @hackney_cycling showing Hackney Council continuing to pursue an outdated and dangerous scheme at Pembury Circus—against their own policies! Baking in danger for cycling & walking for another decade+ is outright irresponsible.
The new cycle tracks, sustainable drainage and planting is really transforming Westfield Ave in the Olympic Park - making the entire street much more people friendly.
And what is that in the background? The first blue sky and sunshine I’ve seen this month. Wow!
Hackney’s decision to progress with a substandard design for Pembury Junction is deeply disappointing.
It also exposes a lot of Hackney’s disjointed and confused thinking and policy making.
This thread is important for your transport remit @SarahWoodberryD. 👇

@CarolineRussell@KatiePennick The newer buses do have more space for this (at least on the 43 route) - they have two fewer seats, so you can fit in three prams or two wheelchairs.
@CarolineRussell@KatiePennick After years avoiding it, we literally gave up and got a car because I was so sick of the terrible treatment we got from TfL bus drivers and the consequent unreliability of any journey and stress it caused my son.
@CarolineRussell@KatiePennick TfL policy on this is much weaker than it should be, and most drivers don't even enforce the policy. We have been denied boarding many times with a wheelchair.
1/ Hackney is moving forward with a Downham Road scheme without cycling provision.
We don't think the decision makes any sense, and is a wasted opportunity.
@SarahWoodberryD @mayorofhackney@carowoodley please read to understand the background of this strange decision ->
@Microlambert@hackney_cycling 2019 it opened
Even then we had to hold their feet to the fire as the initial plan was to make the road two way with no cycling provision at all.

Wick Road in Hackney: a racetrack leading from the A12 towards central Hackney: pavement parking on one side and street parking on the other, and a racetrack in the middle.
Hackney Council have been this way since ever. Officers are motor centric and generally cluelesss about what good cycling design looks like. When other boroughs were doing nothing, it was less noticeable. LTNs good, but when was the last good main road scheme they put in?
This re Downham broadly matches messages I @London_Cycling & @hackney_cycling got from others through this debacle (HT @hoxtonrich). Taking into account Pembury Circus, delayed LTNs but also @mayorofhackney@carowoodley talking at protest following Harry Webb & Gao Gao's death...
We're pleased that the decision (to proceed with Hackney Council's unsafe junction scheme) has been called-in, we hope that it will lead to the decision being reviewed by cabinet.
We ask @hackneycouncil to refer jnct designs to @activetraveleng to assess & act on their feedback.
Downham Road: another Hackney failure
Unbelievably @hackneycouncil's decision report failed to include HCC's official response:
"We maintain... that a scheme on Downham Road that does not provide a safe cycle route will not contribute to model shift...

Last year, following the deaths of 3 cyclists in Hackney, Mayor Woodley tweeted ‘We can do so much more to make Hackney’s streets safer’.
A year on she's approved a design that falls far short.
Nine months ago, a cyclist was left for dead by a driver here.

A tale of two boroughs: on paper, you couldn't get a rizla between Camden and Hackney's transport strategies. But while Camden builds cycle tracks through the LITERAL WEST END, read Hackney's justification for why cycling doesn't belong in Hackney Central. It's pretty shameful
.@willnorman as a leader in efforts to make London's streets safer for walking & cycling we urge you to speak up:
Hackney Council are proceeding with plans that include almost NO improvements to make cycling safe at a dangerous junction.
There's an alternative design that's safer
