Cursor just launched one of its biggest updates yet: Origin

Cursor can now HOST your code itself

This is no longer just an AI coding platform sitting on top of GitHub

Cursor is starting to build its own GitHub layer... designed from the beginning for AI agents at scale

Origin already gives you:

• Native Cursor-hosted repositories
• Pull requests with commits, checks, diffs, comments and merging
• Code browsing and search
• Real-time GitHub syncing
• Two-way PR sync with GitHub
• Agents that can understand the code, make changes, update PRs and push branches
• Vercel integration for preview + production deployments
• Depot and Buildkite for CI

And the timing is kinda very incredible
GitHub has been having repeated reliability problems this month

On August 6, GitHub Actions was degraded for more than 9 HOURS

At the peak, 71% of workflow runs experienced infrastructure failures

And today GitHub had another broad incident affecting API requests, Actions, Git operations, Issues, Pages, Pull Requests and Webhooks for more than 3 hours before mitigation

GitHub itself reported roughly 20% error rates across web/API traffic and around 50% error rates for archive and raw repository downloads during the incident

and now Cursor launches its own code-hosting infrastructure on the exact same day

Origin is still early beta and the direction is already huge

Before:
Code on GitHub → Cursor connects to it → agents work on it

And when GitHub goes down... well, suddenly a huge part of that workflow is staring back at you with an error message

Now:
Code can live in Cursor → agents live beside the code → make changes → push branches → open/update PRs → review → merge → deploy

Cursor used to be the AI layer sitting on top of the developer stack

Now it is moving down the stack and building the infrastructure underneath the agents too

IDE → Agents → Repositories → Pull Requests → CI → Deployment

The entire software-development loop is starting to collapse into one agent-native platform

I remember asking assistant coach Mo Cheeks, what’s harder to do? Workout after practice or before?? I only asked cuz by time I would get to the gym, Russ was already done in the morning and I usually got mine in after practice. Mo like, “coming in before practice is probably harder”…since then, it’s been my routine….a lot of people looked at the emotions on the court and thought Russ was loud, nah to me, he was quiet and methodical. He lead by example and once the lights were bright, he let everything out and experienced pure freedom. It was inspiring as his teammate and everywhere I went, I seen it inspire people from all walks of life, crazy thing is, he didn’t say much, he just showed up. For 18 years. This basketball life is sacred to us as professionals, what we put into that court means everything. Some of us wish we could go back and do things with a little more intent and some can just wipe their hands and be satisfied with the time spent. Who u gonna be? We know what zero was on…keep inspiring in the next phase of life champ. I don’t care what happens, can’t erase what it was…The first YNs, finals run in our early 20s, all star games, seeing each other get injured and bounce back, the bus rides, plane rides, card games, jokes and arguments, the whole thing, memorable!! …to the whole Westbrook family, Nina, the kids, mama Westbrook, big Russ, Ray, Donnell, everybody from luezinger high and ucla and many more that I’m forgettin, much love and Congratulations on a iconic career.

I think the most painful part about fighting for change is watching people you genuinely believed were part of the movement slowly water it down, shake hands with murderers, laugh with them, sit comfortably around the very oppressors they once condemned, then come back with all sorts of explanations and excuses for why they were there, why it was necessary and why we shouldn’t read too much into it. And you’re left wondering, was any of this ever real, or were some of these people simply well calculated psyops from the very beginning?

And then you find yourself asking an even harder question, are the lives we lost not personal to you? Because for some of us, they are. We remember the young people who lost their lives fighting for a better country, the families that had to bury their children, the blood that was spilled, and maybe that’s why it’s so difficult to understand how someone who stood beside you through all of that can suddenly sit comfortably, laugh and shake hands with the very people we were fighting against 🥹

And somewhere along the way, you begin to understand why people like Patrice Lumumba, Dedan Kimathi, Thomas Sankara and so many other African heroes were killed so brutally. It wasn’t always because they didn’t have people around them. Many did. The problem was that some of the very people they believed they were fighting alongside had already sold out long before the fight was over.

Perhaps that is one of the hardest truths about fighting for change, eventually you realise that people really do have a price. Politics is indeed a dirty game, and I have a feeling 2027 will expose even more about people’s character.

But I really hope the few who genuinely believe in change don’t give up. Is it easy? Absolutely not. But I believe there is something deeply fulfilling about knowing that even if you died today, you never sold out, never shook hands with murderers and never became comfortable with people who have blood on their hands simply because they offered you money, access or power. Does that make you a hero? Absolutely not. It simply means you remained honest about what you stood for.

And eventually, when money no longer matters, when power no longer matters and when all the noise has died down, I think being able to live with yourself knowing you never betrayed what you believed in is what will matter most.

AWS feels easier than ever to use. But I’m not sure it’s getting easier to understand.

AI can write Terraform for you.
Templates can spin up entire stacks.
The console hides more complexity every year.

And that’s useful. But the hard part of cloud was never typing the configuration. It’s knowing why you’d choose Lambda over ECS.

Why DynamoDB makes sense here, but RDS makes more sense there.
Why something should sit in a private subnet.
Why an architecture that works perfectly for 1,000 users might become painful at 100,000.
And why a setup that looks “clean” can quietly leave you with a terrible AWS bill.

The tools will keep getting better. I just don’t think they’ll replace the part that actually takes time to learn: making good architecture decisions.
