For our new Huddlers, welcome to our healthcare community
If there’s one thing you should know, it’s this:
The healthcare industry is a shit show and we’re here to keep you informed on the shit show.
In tomorrow's Healthcare Huddle, I'll be priming y'all for my virtual event on The Rise of Retail Health
The virtual event is on Weds May 17 w/ @B_Madden4
See y'all there!
I wrote in my 5th grade yearbook I wanted to be a doctor.
I embarked on a long and arduous journey to just get INTO medical school and then to get THROUGH medical school.
Now, I’m officially Jared Dashevsky, MD.
I’m so f*cking happy to be done with school (doesn’t mean I’ll stop learning, though!) and to start caring for patients.
It takes a village, and I’m so grateful for those who’ve coached, mentored, and supported me along the way.
And a special shout-out to Healthcare Huddle, which has also been a wild journey alongside medical school 🥹💙

Virtual event coming up!!
Join @B_Madden4 and me as we chat about The Rise of Retail Health
This will be a quick, 30 min chat filled with valuable information that physicians and providers need to know to stay up to date with the industry.
Doctors' offices should be texting GenZ/Millenials to confirm appointments... no calling, please
It takes me 2 seconds to reply "YES" vs needing to listen to someone introduce themselves (automated or not) only to ask if I can confirm my appointment
Thoughts?
Apple is rumored to launch an AI-powered personal health coach next year.
The combination of this personal health coaching and their massive market share + vast user data... just wow.
This new service will further strengthen Apple's position in the digital health landscape.
The Affordable Care Act: Facing a New Legal Challenge on Preventive Care Coverage - good analysis of the recent court decision on ACA preventative services provisions by @jareddashevsky https://t.co/m9zORef79i
This year's digital health funding is on track to do no better than 2019's funding year
I covered Rock Health's Q1 digital health funding report in the Huddle (link below)
Here are 3 areas I'm following:
1. Metabolic Health: this space has just begun to heat up with the advent of GLP-1 agonists advertised for weight loss. WW acquired Sequence, Ro launching weight loss program...
2. AI: the most significant use case for GPT-like technology is in clinical and non-clinical workflow. See Nabla, Nuance, and denyify
3. Mental health: this area continues to be the top-funded clinical indication. But with PHE ending, investors may think twice before increasing investment in cos whose business models are impacted by the PHE's end (Ophelia, Bicycle Health).

Medicaid redeterminations begin TODAY
The continuous enrollment provision allowed millions+ Americans to maintain Medicaid/CHIP enrollment...
...but now, millions may be booted off of Medicaid/CHIP
I'm sharing tomorrow's Huddle on this topic a day early... check it out!
Friendly reminder that every system is perfectly designed to get the results it gets
Don't like the results?
Change the system.
But... the longer a system is in place, the harder it is to change.
Add trillions of dollars to the system, and it becomes seemingly impossible to change.
That's where we're at with U.S. healthcare.
The ACA celebrated its 13th birthday last week.
While I usually highlight the good of the ACA in my Huddles, this past Sunday, I highlighted the bad:
How the ACA ruined physician-owned hospitals.
The ACA turns 13 tomorrow
When I turned 13, my parents said, "these past 13 years weren't easy!"
The same can be said for the ACA.
I'll be diving into why the ACA wasn't an easy child in this week's Huddle. Join the Huddle 👇
Got the best news yesterday! I’m beyond excited to be joining @BCMGSRes on the innovation track. Can’t wait to get started, I’ll be in Houston for the next 7 years if anyone needs me! #match2023@bcmhouston@BCM_Surgery
If you're in medicine and you find yourself ignoring the ChatGPT4 news...
Please don't.
Yes, it's a bit scary; yes, it's advancing exponentially; yes, there are a lot of unknowns.
But you must embrace ChatGPT with curiosity.
It is the future stethoscope: a tool we'll have at the bedside, embedded in our workflows to augment patient care.
Don't run away from ChatGPT! Run towards it!
