Day 1 of being a dependent wheelchair user out in the real world - no more ICU or nursing homes - people are NICE. People are finally concerned about my disability. People RUN to help at any chanceVery different from getting my car keyed every time I used a disabled parking spot
You should never be expected to be the bigger person when you didn’t create the discomfort in the first place. Too many people cause the chaos, cross the line, then want you to swallow your feelings just to keep the peace. Nah. Accountability matters. Being mature doesn’t mean accepting disrespect or cleaning up messes you didn’t make. Sometimes protecting your peace means standing firm and letting folks sit in the consequences of what they caused.
@PainSteals My last pain doctor said exactly 7 days bc that’s what the CDC says. No exception. She admitted that she thinks her entire job is to count to 7. I put in multiple complaints and the bitch got fired! Anyone who quotes the CDC while smiling gleefully at your pain deserves that.
Gaslighting isn’t always a dramatic manipulation, like hiding your keys and then denying they touched them.
It can be subtle comments like, “I’m worried you’re becoming forgetful” or, if you call them out on their mistreatment of you, they may say things like, "Are you ok? You don't seem yourself. I'm really worried about you. " They are feigning 'care' and 'concern', while subtly implying there's something wrong with you.
Over time, these comments make you doubt yourself and question your reality. They are trying to destabilize you to deflect from their own toxic behavior.
Trust your gut, even when it whispers. Freedom from manipulation starts with awareness of their strategies.

Americans are so obsessed with individualism & greed they cannot comprehend a society rooted in collectivism & community. A world without exploitation where everyone exists to help each other—not conquer each other—is so foreign to the American mind they perceive it as the enemy.
When a narcissist begins abusing someone, to outside observers it often looks like both people are just caught in a messy conflict, pointing fingers and trading blame. But that’s an illusion. One of them is a manipulator, and the other is reacting to abuse.
The narcissist will often accuse their target of the very things they themselves are doing — lying, being manipulative, playing the victim, being toxic — and they'll do it with such conviction and calmness that it disorients everyone, including the target.
Meanwhile, the real victim is often emotionally overwhelmed, hurt, or desperately trying to explain themselves — and this imbalance gets used against them.
The narcissist didn't attack because their target did anything wrong or offensive — they attacked because that person threatened their ego, exposed their insecurity, or was simply too happy for the narcissist to stomach.
One person is the abuser. The other is innocent — and being retraumatized not just by the abuse, but by the world’s failure to see it.
