Nice demonstration of a common tactic among low-integrity political partisans: when faced with an unfavorable outcome, they rather perform victory than concede defeat. This can frustrates the opposition, gives the tribe something to cheer for, and might even sway some undecided ppl. It's not unreasonable behavior if you want to preserve the illusion of being right.
