This has not been a good week for the police. The Henry Novak case has further damaged their reputation, with many believing that trust has now been eroded beyond repair. Yet this is not an isolated incident; concerns about policing have been building for years.

There is no doubt that many rank-and-file officers are dedicated, professional and well-intentioned. However, if the police are ever to regain public trust, those officers must collectively reject the culture of ideological indoctrination, be willing to challenge senior leadership when necessary, and demonstrate through their actions that they will police without fear or favour.

I was under the impression that police officers are allowed to kick someone if they are trying to disarm someone who has a weapon & is refusing to relinquish it. I'm pretty sure that head-kicking is not standard procedure against unarmed men who are already on the ground.
