This is my little sister.
She was born on Christmas Day, the youngest of six children. She had Down syndrome. Doctors said she would never amount to much and suggested that she could be aborted or sent away to live in an institution so my parents wouldn't be burdened. My parents disregarded that advice.
She endured multiple open-heart surgeries before she was three years old. She came through that and grew into an amazing human being. She was an accomplished speaker, advocate, and actor. She has an IMDB profile. She graduated with honors from high school and attended college classes. She learned to drive, got married, and lived a full, independent life. She was an inspiration to tens of thousands of people who attended her speeches.
She was an incredible daughter, sister, aunt, and wife, and a dear friend to countless people. She passed away recently and left a huge hole in so many people's lives. As she once said, "People who have Down syndrome can change the world. Being smart is not always what makes people happy. Loving and being loved is what makes people happy." She was so happy, and she brought so much happiness to others because she loved (and was loved) unconditionally.
I wish you had met her. You might not have murdered your baby.
No one in my family suffers from my little sister-in-law Valentina’s existence — including Valentina herself. And for the record, she had heart and ear surgery. That does not make her unworthy of life. I’ll be praying for the little soul of the child you killed.
The contrast is sickening.
Less than a month ago, this man (@McJuggerNuggets) celebrated a dog who beat impossible odds and refused to give up. As a dog owner, this was likely very expensive and time extensive for him.
But, this week, he announced he wouldn't give his own HUMAN child that same chance because he and his wife were told told baby had Down syndrome.
Your child's worth is not determined by their IQ, health challenges, chromosome count, level of dependence, or ability to live independently.
Every human life has value.
A diagnosis should never become a death sentence.
My baby is in a grave, she will NEVER come home Senator.
The reckless policies you championed and defend helped create an environment that enabled a person who never should have been in our country to kill her.
And this despite an awful background and serious infectious health issues Illinois failed to identify or help treat.
Is that your definition of compassion, Senator?
Any consideration for Katie Abraham and other innocent law abiding citizens like her, or is your compassion only selective and political?
Your “compassion” is as selective and inauthentic as @GovPritzker
And exactly how is this bettering our nation Senator?
Serious advice from my almost 10 years as a Catholic: Do all you can to avoid reading any popular coverage of Pope Leo's new encyclical: left, right, secular sources or churchy ones. Treat that stuff like movie spoilers.
Silence all of that and try to plow through the whole thing on your own. It's a holiday for us Americans!
When Catholic, Inc. starts shilling that you have a duty to see and support Mel Gibson's movie about the Resurrection, remember this.
Gibson's choice of on-site Mass celebrant was a priest prohibited from public ministry.
One of the primary reasons Trump was elected was to tame out-of-control rising prices.
He's failing, and he has no one to blame but himself, as his actions are the primary driver of today's inflation.
Nick Shirley says it’s getting harder to investigate fraud for a number of reasons
- He’s become very recognizable to fraudsters because of social media
- Fraudsters are on high alert right now because of his reporting
- Fraudsters are covering up the fraud
- some fraudsters are taking what they’ve stolen and leaving America
Impact
- The Federal Government shut down over 500 hospices in California. Not a single hospice has said, hey, open our hospice back up.
- In Minnesota, they froze $250 million of payments for childcare there. Not a single daycare sent a single receipt
- They just raided 22 daycares and other welfare programs. Not a single mother complained about her child not being able to go to a daycare.
The real problem is none of the politicians who have let it happen have been held accountable. Not a single one
Excellent response, Joshua. As you note, the graphic is worthless because it’s fallacious; its entire argument resting on a false premise.
The Catholic Church has never taught that the Fathers are the “Final Authority” over Scripture. The graphic misrepresents and thus fails to interact with the actual Catholic position, which is tripartite: Scripture, Sacred Tradition, and the Magisterium together.
What the Catholic Church actually teaches regarding the Fathers is the consensus patrum: their moral (not absolute) unanimity and convergent witness across centuries, receiving, confirming, and handing on the living Tradition and the authentic meaning of Scripture, never replacing it.
Once that’s understood, the graphic’s central fallacy becomes clear and each of its four claims collapse on their own, because, collectively, they argue against a position the Catholic Church doesn’t hold. From its title to its final bullet point, the graphic is one extended straw man fallacy.
Today’s Supreme Court decision effectively guts a key pillar of the Voting Rights Act, freeing state legislatures to gerrymander legislative districts to systematically dilute and weaken the voting power of racial minorities - so long as they do it under the guise of “partisanship” rather than explicit “racial bias.” And it serves as just one more example of how a majority of the current Court seems intent on abandoning its vital role in ensuring equal participation in our democracy and protecting the rights of minority groups against majority overreach.
The good news is that such setbacks can be overcome. But that will only happen if citizens across the country who cherish our democratic ideals continue to mobilize and vote in record numbers - not just in the upcoming midterms or in high profile races, but in every election and every level.
I'm grateful that the President and his entourage are unhurt after this latest attack. May I raise my voice against the viciousness and tribalism that are so prevalent on the internet and that contribute mightily to the violence we see in our political culture. Can we please remember that it is possible to disagree with a politician's ideas without demonizing and de-humanizing him? Jesus commanded us to love our enemies, and that includes our ideological opponents.
Democratic U.S. Congressional candidate Esther Kim Varet used IVF to have two children. Then, at 41, she became pregnant naturally.
What did she do? She had an abortion, killing her healthy preborn baby, because she and her husband decided THEY only wanted two kids. She claims a third child would have “overburdened“ their footprint on the world, so she killed her child and tries to justify it by saying she is “saving the planet.”
This is the logic of abortion supporters. Human beings are seen as the problem, and fewer humans are seen as the solution…even when the victim is your own healthy preborn baby.
No more green-washing abortion. Every human life has value, and every preborn baby deserves protection. We will not stop until we end abortion in our lifetime.
