Watching Lord of the Rings with my middle schoolers:
“That sword is a W.”
“That orc to men ratio is selling.”
“She wasn’t able to pull that huz.”
“Drop 1’s in the chat if you think that guy is crazy.”
“Bro has aura.”
“Ha! He said duty!”
It’s a unique viewing experience.
@moniza_hossain I’ve been to the actual UFO museum in Roswell and listened to the top “expert” on the incident give a lecture. It was a similar vibe. Like if I didn’t already not believe in it, this would convince me it’s total nonsense.
So far the live actions haven’t held my kids’ attention (they thought Treasure Island was ok), up until last night’s feature. 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea was a hit! Who knew? I’d never seen it. Judging by my 11 year old’s reaction this one is ripe for a remake!
So, a few months ago my boys wanted to know what the first full length Disney movie was. So we watched Snow White. Then they wanted to know what the second movie was. Thus began our epic quest to watch every full length Disney film in order. We’re up to 1955.
That was the only one they made, but apparently the artists that weren’t drafted for combat were drafted to make propaganda by the government, which is why the cartoons from the 40s are so hodgepodge. They were throwing together half made clips to stay in business.
I was 11. I had studied every pre-release sticker book in the checkout aisle at all the grocery stores and memorized every character’s name. I was pretty much the ideal audience member for what this movie turned out to be. I absolutely loved every minute of it.
Liz uses her imagination to escape her problems--school bullies, a mean older brother, her grandfather's death--but when she accidentally transports herself and her siblings to her own imaginary world she has to face them or lose her little sister forever. #KidLitPit#MG#F
@alioop7 What are the advantages of submitting to publishers that accept unagented submissions? If it’s accepted does it help or hurt your chances of signing an agent for future books?
Anyone who thinks romance novels have unrealistic plots should know that my great grandpa used to steal watermelons from a nearby farmer. Until he got caught and had to work all summer to pay him back. My great grandma was the farmer’s daughter.
Anyone who thinks romance novels have unrealistic plots should know that I was just friended on Facebook by an old elementary school friend who now owns a ranch in Montana.
@beingcindy Having recently watched Encanto a million times with my toddler, Abuela comes to mind. Not a classic villain, but an antagonist who definitely has a redemption arc.
@haleshannon I wasn’t born yet, but my mom told us this story often. She was in labor with my older sister when it happened. She watched the news on the little hospital TV and was devastated.
@jenrofe At that age my boy was super rambunctious, gleefully ran away from us in public places, and was impossible to discipline because he thought everything was a game. Now he’s a joyful 8 yo who loves math and science, is super funny, and makes instant friends with everyone.
