she was a grad student who signed her name to an op-ed criticizing the university for its ties to israel. she then got doxxed by the Canary Mission which eventually led to her arrest and the revoking of her visa. WHERE IS RUMEYSA OZTURK
hi all i don’t know where else to go about this but a student from my university has been abducted by ice. nobody knows where she is or if she’s safe, her name is rumeysa ozturk and we’re just trying to amplify her name as much as possible PLEASE look into it and spread the word
just a little Punishment based on Opaque Unaccountable Determination of Adjacency to Ruckus-Causing, nothing to get fucking angry about folks
(please get fucking angry)
@neilcic thank you so much for speaking up on this. i and the rest of the tufts community are reeling — i’ve talked to friends and professors of rumeysa and everybody knows that she did nothing violent or out of line. only exercised her right to free speech. it’s just sickening
this is everything i could gather:
Rumeysa Ozturk is a Turkish student at Tufts. she co-published an op-ed urging her university to divest from zionism. she has a valid F-1 visa, and was taken by homeland security on March 25th. her whereabouts are unknown.

@tornvelvets the security footage was especially haunting. it’s always horrible but when you can pinpoint where it happened and you know you’ve walked past that exact location and will continue to walk by it, it’s just extra chilling
Incredible turnout in Powderhouse for Rumeysa Ozturk today. People are furious. Really wish we had marched on Tufts who are completely complicit with the way they treated their brave students who spoke up against genocide. Missed opportunity to channel the anger into pressure
@partytattccs i’m at the same school, heading to a rally for her tonight! the whole university is standing up for her which is amazing but just heartbreaking that it had to come to this in the first place

@meteoradnp i’m a child studies major!! originally i wanted to be an elementary school teacher but ive been super interested in speech-language pathology recently :) there’s lots of different paths u could take within the field
@princemolder she worked closely with one of my favorite professors on campus. he was talking about her to our class today about her projects and how much of a delight she was to work with. my classmates and i are all just sick to our stomachs
i don’t know what to do i just can’t stop thinking about rumeysa. she was literally on her way to break her fast when it happened and im so scared that they’re not accommodating for ramadan and she’s just starving or forced to break her fast early
@johnphilipelder the wording choice of “doxxed” was from a professor who worked closely with her before all this that was talking with my class about the incident. i’m trying to share information as precisely as it’s been told to me

@johnphilipelder her name, face, and university were posted on that website without her consent, specifically for people who have malice against her to see
if you’re in the greater boston area PLEASE try and come out in support of rumeysa. her only crime was speaking her mind in a country that lied about protecting her rights to free speech. WHERE IS RUMEYSA OZTURK
🚨 Turkish academic Rumeysa Ozturk, Tufts PHD student & Columbia alum, was detained by ICE after being targeted by Israeli-linked Canary Mission for her pro-Palestine activism.
Her visa was reportedly revoked, and friends say she was surveilled before ICE ambushed her on the way to Iftar on Tuesday evening.
A protest is set for 5:30 p.m. in Somerville to demand her release.
