Toxic people will provoke you on purpose and then play innocent while blaming you for reacting.

They know exactly which buttons to push because they have spent time learning what hurts you, what frustrates you, and what will eventually make you snap. Their goal is not to solve the problem but to create one. Once they get the emotional reaction they were looking for, they immediately shift the focus away from what they did and make your response the entire issue.
