I don’t think people understand the magnitude of destruction in Gaza. From north to south, Israeli forces have turned entire towns and neighborhoods into wastelands. Beit Hanoun is completely destroyed, with no standing structures remaining. Beit Lahia is severely damaged and lies in mass ruin. In Jabalia, both the town and the refugee camp have been heavily bombarded; roughly 70 percent of the camp’s buildings are gone, making it largely uninhabitable. Gaza City has lost more than 80 percent of its buildings. Israeli bombardment erased major neighborhoods, and in the Shuja‘iyya neighborhood, months of bombardments destroyed over 80 percent of buildings, leaving only fragments of what once was there. In Al‑Mughraqa, returning residents have found nothing but rubble. Juhr el Dik has been completely leveled. In Deir al‑Balah, the least damaged area, 43 percent of buildings have been destroyed or damaged. In the south, Khan Yunis has been nearly flattened. Abasan and Bani Suheila have suffered massive structural devastation. Their residents can’t recognize them anymore. And in Rafah, more than 89 percent of buildings have been damaged or destroyed. This is not just war damage. This is deliberate, systematic devastation.
