No matter how badly I might want it, I can't be Japanese. I could learn the language, value the culture, understand the art, love the music, etc., but I can never be Japanese. A white man can't be Japanese. What I love about my country is that anyone can be an American. You need to believe in freedom (freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom of the press, etc.), democracy, human rights, the Constitution, etc. But you can be an American. I have zero interest in ethno-nationalism because that isn't the American idea.
@Philebus9@alexpriou It would be nice to have someone like Priou relitigate the Bradford/Jaffa debate over equality, or analyze Ryn's "value-centered historicism." Anton would gesture in that direction every once in a while, but never without being provoked (and provocative).
@RpwWilliams several podcasts ago, you mentioned a series of works of historical fiction that you enjoyed as a boy . . . can you remind me of the author's name?
@DaleJohnsonBBC I guess all that "made himself bigger" stuff on much less useful "handballs" has gone out the window. It's all about perfect clarity regarding intentionality now? As if that's possible to determine here! (In what nanosecond did Mbeumo realize that his handball became useful?)
@classickel40448@SamueILFC@Slimdaddiiii He's a very smart player, but he's calculated that, given his current weaknesses, high-risk is the way to go. And he doesn't have a Alexander-Arnold, Szoboszlai, Nunez corridor to make it work.
@classickel40448@SamueILFC@Slimdaddiiii Man, I'm even fine with his misses, but his (1) decision-making (he's a travela junkie now) and his (2) inability to beat anyone running or dribbling gives LFC no outlet. He can still hold up the ball a little, but it's not like there's anyone to run off him.
@classickel40448@SamueILFC@Slimdaddiiii This is so obviously true. Slot designed the team around him last season, and tried to do the same the first half of this one. What more does he want except higher quality teammates, and that's not on the "coach."
@IanDarke@GCorbey91 If it were a glancing touch, that's one thing, but this was the equivalent of an excellent trap, and that means it operates somewhere between intentional and unintentional as soon as the player recognizes the opportunity it has given him. No way it should be allowed.
@titusfilm Aren't there serious intellectuals who have argued against the "best education for the best is the best education for all" idea? I can't imagine they'd use either "catastrophe" (what does he mean?) or "radical alpha," but . . .
@CouchNish Why put Szoboszlai on the right? His good games there had him partnered with Salah and Alexander-Arnold. Switch him with Jones. We need him shooting!
@danlfcynwa_ Not great 10 bc his touch, dribbling, balance/gravity aren't elite. Good as a link-up 10 when receiving on the run. His best spot is LCM, pivot or not, because of his shooting (which should happen much more!). You'd lose his elite crossing from the right.
@AuronMacintyre long-time listener, etc. . . . would you consider a podcast/video on D. C. Schindler's recent article on "The Crisis of Authority": https://t.co/MrnXxdeDiz
