@KurtCouchman@mattyglesias In the GFC, it took over 3 years to recover GDP, 6 years for employment to recover and 8 for median household income to recover. We already passed those benchmarks years ago.
@blurrrgh@BackTo_1970@ryniguez1 @PeterArcher37 @mattyglesias They may not be. But still fine and adequate in lots of cases. And sufficient to claim it’s far from clear or obvious masks are useless.
@blurrrgh@BackTo_1970@ryniguez1 @PeterArcher37 @mattyglesias That’s called guesswork. Maybe you’re right half the time, or maybe you’ve got bad judgement. But still ignoring what science may be telling you.
@BackTo_1970@blurrrgh@ryniguez1 @PeterArcher37 @mattyglesias But any observant can look at things staying on the ground but have no clue gravity keeps them there unless science told them so. You’re assuming the mask conclusion without giving a substantive reason why
….except casual assumptions.
@BackTo_1970@ryniguez1@blurrrgh @PeterArcher37 @mattyglesias I know what you said. I replied to it after all. Should we ask the relatives of the dead whether they think natural immunity was superior to vaxx immunity?
@Hold2LLC@blurrrgh@BackTo_1970@ryniguez1 @PeterArcher37 @mattyglesias That’s fine. I’m sure yours are everything you say they are. Nevertheless, there is enough here to show that not “clearly” masks were useless. I’m also happy to say in hindsight they were useless…if that’s what the science tells us now.
@blurrrgh@BackTo_1970@ryniguez1 @PeterArcher37 @mattyglesias Well, here is a report finding the opposite conclusion:
https://t.co/kRFfhJrACu
With several studies cited and from the same period.
@blurrrgh@BackTo_1970@ryniguez1 @PeterArcher37 @mattyglesias Your reference is from 2021 and was from a single substack post of a single study. “Clearly” is not accurate. It’s fine you can hate masks and even not believe they were useful (maybe not all that much research at the time). But that’s all layman’s guess work, not “clearly”
@BackTo_1970@ryniguez1@blurrrgh @PeterArcher37 @mattyglesias It’s a virus, herd immunity is no match for a vaccine, it kills. Sure, the context you want is different. But it’s equally applicable here.
@blurrrgh@ryniguez1@BackTo_1970 @PeterArcher37 @mattyglesias Presidents move onto other jobs too yet you don’t see that as an ongoing vacancy. If you pull funding or executive support from something, attrition will take its course.
