I went to Delaney Hall Detention Center in Newark yesterday to stand in solidarity with the detainees on hunger strike, their families, and the advocates arrested and brutalized outside. My father was held for 3 years in ICE detention centers in New Jersey, and no family should be put through this nightmare. Come out and support and boost their demands by sending a letter to government officials today: https://t.co/SdQehh4J9D
The massive protests at Delaney Hall didn't come out of nowhere — people showed up in solidarity with those detained inside, who are on an ongoing labor and hunger strike to protest inhumane living conditions and demand their release.
The New Jersey private detention facility is run by for-profit company GEO Group, which relies on our tax dollars going to fill their cells, then keeps the profits they make for themselves.
GEO Group made $254 million in profits last year, a 700% increase from the year before. Delaney Hall alone is expected to generate $60 million in revenue each year.

2) Police pushed in with riot shields, shrinking the kettle and arresting activists as well as at least two bystanders who appear to have been unaware of the circumstances when the kettle was formed.
🚨"Somebody is gonna get killed out here! The state police are gonna kill somebody tonight! That one before almost hit several people!" our @JonFarina shouts last night as NJ police fire flash bang grenades into middle of densely packed unarmed protesters.

NOW: New Jersey state police rushed the crowd once again and kettled the small group of anti-ICE Protesters. Later they attack two people sitting on the curb!

Visited Delaney Hall alongside organizers, journalists, Adam Hamawy, and Hasan Piker as detainees entered Day 9 of their hunger strike.
Here’s how you can help whether or not you live in NJ:
today marks 6 years since a cop shot me in the eye with a beanbag round at a blm protest on I-35 in atx. after 5 years of constant distorted double vision, my 10th surgery was removing the eye. its so much better now its hard to fathom sometimes, but i still mourn my past life 🥀
and if you are in NJ and interested in contributing to the "coordinated supply operation", here's some things that can be dropped off at the tent (as of yesterday):

Coordinated supply operation exposed at Delaney Hall ahead of protests.
Agitators outside the Delaney Hall detention facility in New Jersey were seen establishing a highly organized logistics and support operation before protests began at the site.
Stockpiles of masks, duct tape, hard hats and medical supplies were laid out near the facility. Delaney Hall has been at the center of a standoff after detainees alleged abuse and poor conditions, claims DHS denies.
NJ politicians are sending in riot cops and imposing curfews while ignoring protesters' concerns and a hunger strike that DHS claims doesn't exist.

The hunger strikers are Delaney Hall are demanding the following:
1) To meet with the Governor
2) Release medically vulnerable people
3) Release young and elderly detainees
They aren’t striking to demand better conditions & treatment, they’re doing it to demand their freedom
