I first met @AshutoshRanka two months ago, when the NEET paper leak controversy had just erupted, well before the CJP was formed. He had painstakingly compiled data on every major paper leak in India over the last two decades and sent it to me on WhatsApp. The research was meticulous and deeply impressive.

Little did I imagine that this same young engineering graduate would soon be sitting across the table from two Union ministers, negotiating on behalf of student protesters.

As he told me, he had never even been to Jantar Mantar before this. Ashutosh isn’t a professional agitator. He’s an idealistic young Indian who chose to act.

I interviewed him last night after the CJP-government talks. He looked exhausted, seemed unwell, but spoke with remarkable clarity and conviction.

INTERESTING: Dont forget it took the CJI’s reference to the word “cockroach” to finally trigger youth protests. Now when videos of students allegedly being beaten or dragged were cited, the court says it has no time to watch them. Makes you wonder: what does our justice system choose to prioritise? 🙏

15 days and counting. Sonam Wangchuk is a man of remarkable grit. While most politicians retreat to cooler climes in summer, here is someone showing what Gandhian-style, peaceful resistance is truly about. You don’t have to agree with everything he says, but for sheer courage and conviction, he deserves a SALUTE! 💪🏻
And an aside: when Anna Hazare fasted, we in the media covered it round the clock. Sonam Wangchuk’s 15-day protest? Barely a mention. Says a lot about what we choose to amplify and how much things have changed since 2011. 🙏

Morning thought: Every time I watch a World Cup football match, I ask myself: will I live to see the day when India is part of the spectacle, not just a spectator? Seventy-nine years after Independence, we are yet to play in a single World Cup in the ultimate global team sport (we almost did once in 1950). A billion dreams. One unanswered sporting question. Now Cong Rajya Sabha candidate Meenakshi Natarajan nomination rejected by returning officer claiming she hid details of a criminal case against her in Telangana. Cong claims it was only a show cause notice in a minor case. NOTE: BJP supported independent Parimal Nathwani given till 11 am tomorrow to rectify procedural mistake in Jharkhand Rajya Sabha poll . Will same principle be followed here? Will ECI @ECISVEEP finally play neutral umpire as it is constitutionally mandated to?
