Interesting signing. Was still playing Eredivisie football last season at age 29..not someone who left Europe 5 yrs ago and has subsequently drifted thru weaker leagues somewhere in the Southeastern Europe or Eastern Mediterranean or Baltic region or lower tier of the Middle East.

But don't expect this man to score > 10 goals or even be a regular starter for S'gor. In Holland, he was known for coming in in the last 20 mins to provide differences, not necessarily goals or assists...but more to change the way the team approaches the final 15 mins, especially when everyone else was out of ideas on how to break down a stubborn defence.

So, a potentially clever functional signing by KPG rather than a marquee one.

I don't know much abt this new CB guy Selangor just signed: Arbenit Xhemajli. Reputation-wise, especially in Asia, he has no known record. But I don't care anymore abt reputation or names. We've seen so many reputable players with big names and from well-known clubs, but when they came to SFC, things didn't work out well. Most notably, they have missed the big, crucial games when the team needed them most, due to injury, suspension or being away on international duty. Furthermore, Selangor has failed to qualify for an Asian comp., so there's no way Selangor can lure big names to come over. Not a chance.

But what interests me abt this Arbenit guy is that he managed to complete a full 25/26 season with the strongest club in Albania pretty much unscathed..and played mostly full 90 mins in many league matches domestically and in Europe. So I would reckon this factor is important for Selangor - having import players with good fitness & a clean bill of health, something Selangor has rarely gained from many import players in the past. We don't want players who can appear only sporadically. What we need are import players, especially in the spine defensive roles, who can regularly feature in every single league match and play the full 90 mins in the majority of those matches.

Another interesting factor is this guy's background/roots. Genuinely Swiss, typical of those like Granit Xhaka, Shaqiri, Behrami, etc who were often born or raised in Switzerland and developed thru proper Swiss system, while culturally their families may remain strongly Albanian/Kosovar. This usually means these guys are mentally tough and have a tendency to lead younger local players..something we saw last season with Xhaka at Sunderland, who overachieved beyond anyone's expectations. Immigrant/refugee families, parents rebuilding their lives in Switzerland, strong family expectations, and having to compete their way thru the highly structured Swiss football system. You know, that sort of route and journey.

So,all in all, those 2 factors alone give me some level of optimism and confidence now. I no longer care abt big names or reputations with big clubs bla bla bla...anymore. We need mentally tough import players who can inspire and lead the younger players especially the locals, and aren't injury prone.
