Happy birthday to Paul Robeson — pro athlete, actor, singer, civil rights activist, and socialist — born on this day in 1898.
When he traveled abroad, Robeson made a point to sing for workers. Here he is performing ‘Joe Hill’ to Scottish miners in 1949.
