Nearly 400 ostriches were shot in the dark while help stood waiting.

Canadian farmer Katie Pasitney tells Del that after two PCR samples taken from her farm were reported positive for avian flu, the CFIA issued a kill order.

But the flock had been healthy for more than 250 days, and Katie says not one surviving bird was ever retested.

She also explains that earlier tissue testing on sick birds showed Pseudomonas bacteria, not avian flu, and that more than three-quarters of the farm never became ill. Their science showed a healthy flock with natural immunity.

Her family fought for nearly a year to save their birds. Offers poured in:

-Administrator of CMS @DrOz offered to relocate the birds to his Florida ranch.

-CEO of Red Apple Group @JCats2013 pushed for independent testing.

-HHS Secretary @SecKennedy urged Canada in writing to let U.S. agencies test the entire flock.

Every offer was rejected.

The family wasn’t even allowed to say goodbye. Katie and her mother were arrested for trying to feed their animals (with permission) while the government seized the farm.

She describes the gunfire, the panic in the pens, the birds running into each other in the dark, and a family identity erased in a single night.

"The Canadian Food Inspection Agency had to come back in the morning. Those professional marksmen, they call themselves, they had to come back in the morning and finish shooting a couple of our ostriches that laid there in pain all night. We heard the gunshots ourselves. They're lying. And they say that they didn't. They lie. That's what they do the best." -@KatiePasitney

And the most telling part:

The CFIA left the dead ostriches out in the open, hay bales blown apart, with hundreds of migratory ducks landing in the kill zone.

As Katie put it, “Your real risk is the migratory birds. It’s not the flightless animals and the animals on people’s farms that are the risk. They did not follow their own protocols, a detail that shows this was never about a virus; it was about control."

A heartbreaking story that raises a hard question: if this can happen to peaceful farmers over two PCR tests, what else can be justified in the name of public safety?

🚨Don’t stop talking about the ostrich farm!

Hundreds of birds were abused and then murdered — shot dead by the CFIA. This was needless, brutal, and unacceptable.

We need answers and a transparent independent investigation. Share the footage. Put pressure on politicians. This is about justice for the animals and accountability from those we trust to protect them.

BREAKING: CFIA have begun installing more construction fences at Universal Ostrich Farms

This could be in relation to Jim Kerr's recent arrest while trying to feed the birds, it could be a further attempt to restrict visibility to their operation, or something else entirely.

I'll keep an eye on things and update when there's more.

UPDATE: Si Pih Ko's request to get an ostrich count has been DENIED by CFIA

The decision came yesterday to the family via email, no one was sent to inform Si Pih Ko in person.

She was able to meet with RCMP liaisons before she left this morning to read a statement and deliver a letter.

She mentions it here, and I confirmed with her personally, that she was here in an attempt to help the family get a bird count and not making any title claim to the land.

"I'm not here to try and take nothing over, I'm here to assert the law of the land, protect the stewards of it and right now they're (the family) the stewards of this part of the land."

The scene here at Universal Ostrich Farms in Edgewood, BC is somehow becoming even more dystopian.

A whole bunch. More construction fences being erected today and flatbeds have were moving in and out.

Imagine if this was your farm or your property?

The ostriches have been removed from the front pen near the supporters at Universal Ostrich Farms.

It has made it harder to interact with the birds but it will make it easier to get a count, which we are going to try to do today.

@RobertKennedyJr offered TWICE to take these birds to study them.

The Canadian government refused, and instead seems intent on not only slaughtering the birds, but torturing them before they slaughter them.

Please, do or say something.

This is not just an insult to the Trump administration - it is an act which puts everyone at risk to the extent @HHSGov believes the birds hold scientific value and should be studied, not slaughtered and incinerated.

🇨🇦🪶😡 : Universal Ostrich Farm owner Katie Pasitney points out the ostriches and farm owners are being maliciously punished by the Canadian government & Supreme Court of Canada.

An ostrich hen who was spooked by a low flying government drone ran through a fence yesterday and is hurt (👀Pic inserted by me into the video).

The CFIA is refusing to let the farm owners treat the hen and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency has proven to be incompetent in providing care for the injured bird.

I guess the CFIA specialize in killing birds but not caring for them. So why did the Supreme Court rule that CFIA should be placed in charge of the ostriches welfare?

I am not a lawyer, so I must ask all of you, can Katie & Karen file a motion to replace the CFIA as caregivers, based on the CFIA not being able to provide humane care?

If Katie & Karen are not allowed to care for the birds, only someone else who is competent should be placed in charge of their well being.

At this point the Supreme Court of Canada has empowered animal cruelty, which is not the role of the Supreme Court.

People don’t understand the significance of this case.
Yes, it’s about ostriches, but it’s also about an unaccountable and often wrong technocracy entering private property and murdering lifestock purely on the suspicion of illness, without testing. Completely unscientific.
