Is there is a child working in your home cooking, cleaning, fetching water, caring for your children?
Many households in Kenya employ young domestic workers without fully realising what that choice costs a child. But this Friday, 12 June, is the World Day Against Child Labour and it is a moment to pause and ask an honest question:
How old is the person working in your home?
In Kenya, 300,000 children are working instead of learning. A significant number of them are behind the closed doors of private homes doing work that keeps them out of classrooms, away from childhoods they will never get back.
"Child domestic work is not just a poverty issue. It is a child protection and human rights crisis one we can end, together."
This year's theme says it clearly: "Red card to child labour: Fair play for children, decent work for adults."
Fair play means adults doing adult work with fair wages, dignity, and contracts. It means children going to school, not replacing adult labour because it is cheaper or more convenient.
You have the power to be part of the solution:
✅ Employ adults and pay them a fair, living wage
✅ If a child is already in your home, support them back into school
✅ If you know of a child at risk, call our toll-free line: 0800 721 402
✅ If you lead a business or corporate partner with us to make workplaces and supply chains child-labour free
Change does not always start with governments or policies. Sometimes it starts with a decision made inside a home or a boardroom.
This Friday, show the red card. 🟥

Beatrice Ogutu, Executive Director, Investing in Children and the societies (ICS-SP): Holiday seasons are a double-edged sword for parents; it’s a time for fun because our children are back home, but it comes with its own share of stress. The family is the first home for a child and the parent is the first educator. Intentionality in creating time to be together with our children, to connect, to build that relationship, this is the season to make that intentional time. You can take two hours and make it a very quality time to interact, to know your child and guide them. Parents must take care of themselves, to rest and eat well, so that they show up well #CitizenMondayReport
@Yourgoodhaven No one ask for blood ....don't invalidate people feeling to react as you......Coz Dede even did better by not over reacting in the house......I'm sure another housemate could have shouted ...cried. Remember its Doris that made viewers know not even Dede herself
@Yourgoodhaven That's you don't invalidate other people feelings in the name of mistake once she is ready she will accept the apology....as a Sulty fan I don't think you would have given Dede the grace if roles were reversed .....allow people to feel how they want .....not everyone is you
@bas54094 Dede only talked about Sultana after the pee situation to Jason and that was it unless you were watching the back of your TV.....it was a reaction
@ErazuaMbuk True ....me watching I'm drained. Why can't he release them or evict. After the mental draining I hope he won't come up with games to enable them qualify to go back to the main house
@Nuellita31 You are such a male centered idiot......Men like Jason and Bright are doing most and are in r/ship too. For her she has done nothing that's a game let people play......you want her to play with ladies. Patriarchy mentality

🌍 Commemorating World Day Against Child Labour #WDACL2025
📍 Kisumu, Kenya
Investing in Children and their Societies (ICS SP), in partnership with @Freedom_Fund , convened a high-level stakeholders’ forum to bring to light the often hidden realities of child labour and its devastating impact on children, families, and communities.
Under the theme:
“Progress is clear, but there’s more to do: let’s speed up efforts,”
The forum brought together government officials, CSOs, and development partners in a unified call to accelerate efforts to end child labour in all its forms. Kisumu County Governor H.E @AnyangNyongo delivered a powerful keynote address, with strong messages that deeply resonated:
1️“Eliminating child labour is not just a legal responsibility it is a moral and developmental obligation.”
2️⃣ “No economy or society can thrive if its children are trapped in cycles of poverty and exploitation.”
3️⃣ “That is why we must invest more in prevention, education, and family resilience.”
4️⃣ “To our young people and survivors of child labour: your voice matters your future matters. And we are here to walk with you.”
💬 These words echoed the purpose of the day to reaffirm our collective commitment to protect every child and secure a future where no child’s potential is compromised by exploitation.
