@Tree_Folklore But it is fabulous for insects. It grows profusely in the hedgerows near my dad's house and the other day one small patch had scores of painted lady butterflies and various bees all over it.
In terms of purposeful gardening and growing new flowers from seed, this year has been completely rubbish. But things that have self-seeded are doing well and attracting hundreds of insects. This is a particularly lovely bee.

Boiler is being replaced (the housing association can't afford to put in heat pumps to replace broken boilers). The house is freezing. I'm sitting under many layers doing trigonometry.

I was worried they were under baked (my oven is a bit temperamental), but after quality control I can confirm that they are perfectly done!
@higgledygarden I'm coming round to the idea of just waiting until spring, having lost so many seedlings and trays of seeds to storms over the last 2 winters. I'd probably feel differently if I had a proper greenhouse, though.
