Hon @JoelSsenyonyi: The question of the lack of resources for medical interns does not arise. The government recently suspended public holiday functions to save money.
We, as parliament, had already passed that entire budget so that money is available, and about UGX 24 billion is going to be saved.
Now that those functions are not going to be held, why don’t we channel that money to the medical interns?

In 2021, in the middle of Covid-19 lockdown, alone on duty, this nurse, Sylvia Nyangoma single handedly helped to deliver mothers of 126 babies, attended to 17 referral cases, and registered zero deaths at Bugoigo health centre II in Buliisa district.

🚨 UGANDA, WAKE UP! MEDICAL INTERNS ARE NOT SLAVES! 🚨
The Federation of Uganda Medical Students’ Association (FUMSA) is sounding the alarm:
REJECT THE ENTIRE HEALTH TRAINING AND INTERNSHIP POLICY NOW!
Medical interns are NOT students. They have completed their degrees. They have earned their transcripts. Yet the system is holding those transcripts at ransom like some twisted bargaining chip.
This is unfair. This is unjust. This must stop.Medical interns are NOT free labour. They are qualified doctors on the frontline ; diagnosing, treating, saving lives every single day — while being paid nothing. The service they offer to Ugandans is real. Their pay should not even be a debate.
Medical interns deserve better.Patients deserve better. Our policymakers can and must do better.
This policy is not just breaking the spirits of our future doctors. It is putting every Ugandan patient at risk.
When you mistreat the people who will one day run our hospitals, you are playing with the health of the entire nation.
ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.
✅Share this post like your life depends on it (because one day, your life or your child’s might).
✅ Tag every MP, Health minister, every journalist you know.
✅ Demand that the entire ill Internship Policy be scrapped and replaced with one that respects dignity and pays fair stipend.
FUMSA has spoken. The ball is now in our court.
REJECT THE POLICY. PROTECT OUR DOCTORS. SAVE OUR HEALTH SYSTEM.🔥
Drop a 🔥 in the comments if you stand with our medical interns.🔥 Tag a doctor, a medical student, or anyone who cares about Uganda’s future.

The burden of heart disease in Uganda is steadily rising, with specialists warning that lifestyle-related conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes stroke and heart attacks are increasingly affecting younger populations.

As Uganda medical association, we have in totality rejected the new government proposal not to pay Frontline health workers- the medical interns, our stand is clear: NO DOCTOR SHOULD WORK FOR FREE!

Dear football,
Today, I want to share with you that this season will be my last as a professional footballer. After so many years living my dream, I feel it’s time to start a new chapter in my life.
Being honest, even though I have been preparing myself for this moment, I found it hard to write this letter. After 20 seasons , many people have played an important role in my career.
When I first kicked a ball as a child in Pamplona with my schoolmates, I never imagined the amazing journey ahead. I’m grateful for every moment: the wins, the tough losses, the challenges, and most of all, the people I’ve met and the friendships I’ve made along the way.
To my teammates, coaches, and every staff member at all the clubs I’ve been lucky to be part of, thank you for helping me grow as a person and a player every day. Wearing the shirts of CA Osasuna, Olympique Marseille, Chelsea FC, Atlético de Madrid, Sevilla FC, and representing my country at the biggest stages has been a true privilege. Every moment has meant so much to me…
Dr. John Omagino, Executive Director of the Uganda Heart Institute, has urged government to make physical exercise spaces mandatory in schools and public offices to curb rising cardiovascular diseases.
About 36 percent of learners in Uganda are obese, putting them at higher risk of serious heart complications, Dr. Omagino said. UHI data shows 25 percent of CVD cases are linked to physical inactivity and poor diets, while alcohol accounts for 20 percent, and stress and smoking contribute 15 percent.
Cardiovascular diseases remain among Uganda’s top killers, claiming more than 27,000 lives annually with a mortality rate of 223 deaths per 100,000 people.

Thank you @DailyMonitor for publishing Tegule’s reminiscences. Noble used to joke that he personified the NRM because those letters were also his initials - Noble Rwaboni Mayombo🤣 We lived in the same Hall - Mitchell and sat in the same class for three years. He was one of the five soldiers of the NRA who had returned from the bush to resume studies. Their five were inseparable. Their pentagon had Mayombo, Mugira, Turyatunga, Karemire and Bainomugisha. The opposite pentagon had Oulanyah, Kajubi-Ssepuuya, Othembi, Olok-Asobasi and I. When I first visited Mayombo’s room I found he had an oversized 6 inch mattress on a tiny bed. Apart from the usual legal tomes, his bookshelf was full of Karl Marx, Friedrich Engels, Kim Il Sung, and other communist thinkers. I recall that Cuban revolutionary icons Fidel Castro and Che Guevara were his true role models. He could recite entire passages from Castro’s courtroom apologia - History Shall Absolve Me.
After the Guild race he refused to accept that his was a real loss. He claimed that it was due to a gap in the consciousness of the students who were confused about who can best serve their interests. He saw himself as a Daniel Ortega whose Sandinista Party overthrew the Samoza regime in Nicaragua but lost elections in 1990. I think Noble wanted to blunt the sting of the electoral loss. I told him that the students were actually aware of their interests that is why they voted for a candidate who was resisting the IMF/World Bank inspired structural adjustment policies that the NRM government had embraced lock, stock and barrel. This policy package forced developing countries like Uganda to carry out radical privatization programs and cut social spending. It was indeed a medicine whose side effects were worse than the disease it intended to cure!
Our disagreements never degenerated into personal conflicts. No wonder a few months after the elections, during the Annual Africa Week, we held a Mock OAU Summit (now AU), and Noble agreed to play the role of Libyan President Gadaffi! He gave a sterling performance. Another Guild contestant, Amon Muzoora played the role of the host President Museveni with Grace Rubaale as First Lady Janet Museveni. Such fora gave the students the opportunity to delve into policy debates and gain insight into the problems afflicting society.
Mr. Simpson Birungi founded Movit Products Ltd in 1997, starting with a makeshift workshop in Namasuba, Wakiso District. Since then, the company has grown into a multi-billion enterprise, becoming one of Uganda's largest taxpayers with over 10,000 direct and indirect employees. Movit is now one of Uganda's most recognizable brands, constantly innovating and delivering excellence in the hair, skin, and baby care categories. The company's products are sold in close to 10 African countries, and it has a production plant in Zambia as well.
Over the past three decades, Birungi has established himself as a successful entrepreneur. Movit's journey is a testament to Birungi's ability to identify opportunities and execute strategic decisions. The company's growth and success can be attributed to Birungi's strategic approach, combined with a sense of healthy vigilance and unwavering commitment to excellence.

@HeartUganda successfully concluded the closed-heart surgery camp at @Lira_RRH.
Over the course of the camp, the @HeartUganda team performed ten life-saving surgeries for children from Lira and surrounding areas, bringing renewed health, hope, and smiles to families across the Lango Sub-Region.
Special thanks to @GovUganda, through the @MinofHealthUg, for the continued support in sustaining the decentralisation of heart care services, now a routine at Regional Referral Hospitals across Uganda.
