The State Department for Trade remains committed to supporting young exporters in accessing international markets and strengthening their participation in global value chains. In line with this commitment, the Principal Secretary for Trade, Regina Ombam, held an engagement with young Kenyan exporter David Lenny Waweru, of Ruwawa Coffee Farm who specializes in organic coffee production and export.

During the meeting, the Principal Secretary commended Waweru for his entrepreneurial drive and his role in positioning Kenya as a key supplier of high-quality organic coffee in the global market. She reaffirmed government support for young exporters through targeted interventions aimed at improving market access, strengthening compliance with international standards, and enhancing value addition across agricultural value chains.

The PS further guided Waweru on available institutional support within the trade ecosystem, including export promotion and market linkage agencies. The discussion highlighted opportunities under regional and continental frameworks such as the East African Community and the African Continental Free Trade Area as strategic platforms for scaling exports and competitiveness. Emphasis was also placed on participation in trade fairs, export missions, and business forums, alongside maintaining high product quality, adherence to organic standards, and strong branding to sustain competitiveness in the specialty coffee market.
