One thing I find so unconscionably awful is the normie idea of a "break-up." I can't imagine spending years loving a person and then saying "yeah, just pretend I never existed." If suicide is murdering the future, then a break-up is killing your past. It's a totally inhuman act.
A Harvard mathematician argues that the rise of AI means universities need more mathematics PhD students, not fewer.
At a time when leading mathematicians are questioning how AI might transform their profession, Michael Brenner offers a contrasting perspective.
Brenner, who also works with Google, reveals that he spent five days examining the recently announced AI-assisted Navier–Stokes result.
Although he recognized substantial mathematical progress, he remained unconvinced that the argument had been fully established.
His central point is that producing a mathematical proof and establishing that it is correct are different achievements.
He argues that the rapid generation of mathematical results makes independent human expertise more important, because researchers must determine whether proofs are correct, whether their conclusions matter, and how they contribute to mathematical knowledge.
He said:
“I think the answer is that we need more graduate students, not less.”
Brenner believes AI should make graduate students more effective rather than eliminate the need to train them.
He also argues that universities have an essential responsibility to evaluate mathematical claims independently instead of treating announcements by technology companies as established discoveries.

Fiction likes to use chess as a way to show how brilliant and tactically/strategically gifted a character is, but there's really no IRL correlation. Ultimate example is Napoleon. Despite being a genius in multiple domains, he was notoriously shit at chess.
Fully functional megalopolis are fascinating. It's one of mankind's greatest achievements and not in a Tower of Babel kind of way . The amount of coordination , knowledge and societal structure required to achieve this , imprints it with a humbleness that's not god-defying
